Ribbons and parfum are a perfect match in Paris... Even if the parfum is British Penhaligon's... Especially if it is Penhaligon's and sitting on 209 rue St Honore right next door to French Queen of lingerie, Chantal Thomass.
But look! How British.
The bottles are perched on lovely cake stands. Or simply lined up like soldiers and beribboned. On rue St Honore, Penhaligon's could pass for any French shop.

Blenheim Bouquet: 'allows a gentleman to undo the good work of the finest ladies finishing school'
These are Penhaligon's advice not mine.
I do wish they didn't show these Fiesta-like cups and saucers in their windows. They sell tea and scented candles but these do not 'go' in my opinion, not that anyone is asking.
I wish they'd stick to their very Victorian look with a decadent edge and leave it at that. The cups and saucers are trop ordinaire.
If you adore perfume and have not read Chandler Burr's The Perfect Scent you are missing out. Everything you want to know about perfume lurks within this book.
Then hightail it off to the Paris Musee du Parfum for further immersion whilst sporting a pink ribbon and a matching macaron.
Don't miss the very old style Frenchie Caron full of ribbons and fluffy powder puffs at 34, Avenue Montaigne...
Ahhh, ribbons in Paris. Will I ever do anything with all those saved white Chanel ribbons from my packages of long ago (pre-economic downturn)?
ReplyDeleteI remember your piece on bows. I notice that the Sonia Rykiel flat knitted bow is being copied on inexpensive cardigans this fall. Similar to those H&M sweaters that came out last spring.
Bonjour, Sonia! :)

Lovely immersion in these Victorian bottles of scent today...
ReplyDeleteLoved reading THE PERFECT SCENT
must go re-read now
Wow! That post was awesome. Perfum and ribbons, what could be better (with a pastry, maybe). And thank you for the Perfect Scent book tip.

Hi Carol! I've nominated your fabulous blog for a blog award called "one lovely blog award". Pop over to my blog when you have the chance as there are a few details.
ReplyDeletePenhaligon - how could I have lived so long without you? Milles merci beaucoups!
ReplyDeleteHow endearing those little hand-tied bows on Penhaligon's perfum bottles! Love the British humour.
ReplyDeleteLadies, watch out! :-)
AND AS YOU ARE ASKING …..
ReplyDeleteI AM WITH YOU…
PERFUME AND TEA CUPS DO NOT MATCH AND SHOULD NOT BE TOGETHER..
WE CAN WONDER ALSO HOW SOMEONE CAN BUY CHOCOLATE OR CANDIES IN A STORE LIKE CRACKER BARREL WHERE BAD CINNAMON CANDLES AND SCENTED PILLOWS SELLS WITH OLD FASHION CANDIES AND REGULAR MEALS AT THE TABLES NEARBY…
Totally delicious...
ReplyDeleteDreams of Paris and London and bows and macarons...
merci for this mornings petit bouchee.
hope you're feeling better Carol! oh those horrid fall colds in NYC! lovely Penhaligon's post, but i would live and die by your French lunch post. like the latest a. bourdain Paris episode, i could visit it again and again.
ReplyDeleteand so much easier on "la ligne" to cyber-consume vs. the real thing!
my london sw3 yummies post is up - and yes there is a penhaligons right there at the end of the "circuit". we aim to please!
We're talking perfume! Those bottles are big! Looks like booze :)
ReplyDeleteStill fighting that cold? Me too, hope that you feel better
Lovely bottles and lovely ribbons! Oooh la la!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images today - love those bottles. I peeked on my map and I think i can find my way there :)
ReplyDeleteHello Carol!
ReplyDeleteTodo Paris tiene su impronta de perfumes y aromas de la perfumería y de la gastronomía!!!!
Y que coincidencia de tu post anterior con la passión de los rojos míos de mi post de ayer! Siempre disfruto visitarte, Besos, Gloria.
Hello Carol!
All Paris has its stamp of perfumes and fragrances in the perfume and food!!
And what a coincidence in your previous post with the passion of the red mine from my post yesterday! I always enjoy to visit you, kisses, Gloria.
Looking at the gorgeous bottles on the cake stands, I had an idea: to create my own "vitrines" at home! If not actual window displays, it's still a fun idea to create a table display with stuff from the cupboards instead of relying on fresh flowers to add a dash of color and light. What do you think??
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Queen of Macarons!
ReplyDeleteI hope your cold hightailed it to Neverland and you are feeling better,
M.
Mais non! Penhaligon's IS Bond Street! mdr
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday to you. Hope you are feeling better.
