Not Ready!

I am so not ready to start practicing restraint!
I am not ready for the Holidays to be over...
I am definitely not ready to go on that long awaited diet :(
Or think about giving up anything. Someone wrote:
Clarify your choices for the next year - set some goals and/or intentions

I am not ready to start swimming for 1 hour every day instead of the 20 - 30 minutes 2 - 3 days a week I do now. Even with a swimming buddy waiting for me at the right this minute!

Did you see the big article in the NEW YORK TIMES yesterday on getting rid of your clutter?

I read all 55 comments in the forum and there are more this morning. I know I need to sign up for Alison's organizing class...but I'm NOT READY!
Luckily I have till Jan 9 so I can procrastinate a bit :)
I am not ready to get a new computer either...though this one runs slow as molasses - it's only 256 megabites! OUCHPass the medication please...I mean the Champagne.
I'll think about all this tomorrow...meanwhile I better run to the pool!

  1. You mean you aren't ready to dust off your old copy of Mireille Guiliano's first book, either?!? -giggles-

I love you. I'm not ready either.

But like you are getting to the pool ~ I'm getting myself psyched. I even wrote down what I've put in my mouth, and at what time, so far today.

Mmmmm, well... Yes... It's only a couple of hours into the day. But... It's a start!

  2. Oh yeah baby, pass the champagne !!!

They say you have two points to pass in order to make something a habit. The first point is at 21 days and the second is at 6 months. So I advanced my 5 out of 7 day treadmill stints to 7 days a week.....I figure even if I do it for just 10 minutes, at least I can say I did it and hopefully by 6 months the habit will be there in my brain..........

But remember, the key to everything is love and happiness......I love your work and you bring me happiness......happy new year.

  3. If you are "not ready" then now is not the time to eat Mirielle's anemic leek soup, swim until you are pruney, or go computer shopping. You are in the pre-contemplation phase. That is an important phase of the change cycle.

You can wait until after Greek Christmas to declare the holidays done and over. Or hold out until after Valentines. Or...

Well, if the world celebrated the /12 days of Christmas/, we would be on day 8!
    No need to panic.
Our family celebrates all 12 days and the stress level is nominal. Plenty of time to bake, visit and hang around reading Christmas tales or listening to Christmas music.
We celebrate Advent too - and therefore do not even begin getting the house decorated or purchase a tree until one or two days before the 25th! (OK, maybe a little shopping for those we need to mail presents to out of state)
The commercialism of Christmas has engulfed a time of reflection and joy to an enormous shopping period that starts in October - yuck!
Anyway, who says you HAVE to do anything about resolutions? Do it when you are ready, emotionally & spiritually!

    I love your daily communications!!

Wishing I was in Paris and having a croissant in the Marais...

  5. Anonymous10:29 AM

    Hi--I've recovered from Christmas overeating,etc..

Couldn't do it again for New Years Eve--

    I'm off to the gym...

Next the Chinese Bakery on Clinton St....

  6. How sweet and precious are these cups.......
    How true.............
    Love you

  7. Anonymous10:38 AM

Those are a riot, Carol. None of us is ready, I imagine. I have a room upstairs that could be such a nice office if I could get the time to de-clutter it--I set that as a goal for this year, and your post reminded me of it. We'll see if it happens. I'm "not ready" yet, either. I have some small, paper cocktail napkins that look like your photos on the cups here, only they're of a young woman from that era being hugged by a young man, and the wording on it is: "I feel a sin coming on." Cracks me up. I had to buy them.

  8. Ahh comes Mardi Gras...holidays over? Non, non , non...Twelfth night is coming up....not ready.....Sooo not ready...I have the yoga pod casts, I can see the computer from the floor...and yet....precomtemplation phase? I have Mireille's books..shall we all go buy leeks? Love and happiness, my all time favorite workout song....All best PB,

Where did these grrreat cups come from?

    I neeeeed them.

  10. G.R. I spotted the illustrated cups in the window of Bodum's coffee shop on 866 Lexington Ave., at 65th Street

I truly love your ParisBreakfasts...and take all
kinds of inspiration and comfort from them.
I'd have to say that the mugs with the "womanly sayings" (not quite sure HOW to refer to them) (smile) tickled me true today.

Thank you so very much for the wonderful way that you enrich the
    lives of others.

Cheers to you and your loved
    May your 2008 be GREAT!

  12. The only approach that has ever worked for me is to institute a small action that I can perform reliably. Not deprivation, not swearing off, but something definite that I can refer to and know that I have done it. And to renew the firm intention of doing it today. And then the next today. And then the one after that. And if you futz up, then resuming. Not dramatic, but more possible. Be kind, be honest.

  13. Mari-Nanci of Smilnsigh brought me/sent me here. What a fun post! If I fit into any of my clothes properly, I'd agree with it wholeheartedly!

  14. I don't return to Paris until the 8th of January and do not regard the holidays over until then! *pours self another glass of champagne* Plenty of time after the 8th for that Darcy Bussell Pilates dvd...

  15. I am so ready for it all to be over. I am sick of food, drink and screaming kids. I just want normal again. Thoroughly enjoyed your post today.

  16. I ripped out the NYT clutter article but I've already lost it in the mess here.

  17. Anonymous8:17 PM

    I just love this one.
    It works in every direction.
Genious and humorous - the images in front of the text having their own say and the images behind the text having another:)
    You make me laugh.

  18. Anonymous9:09 PM

Great post...I laughed out loud! And I'm not ready either. Just about the time everything is over, I finally have the time to enjoy it all. :) Happy New Year.

  19. DITTO that girlfriend, cuz I'm not ready either! I decided that Mireille's book will work better if I live in France! That won't be happening anytime soon (as much I can dream it would)! So, bring on the French paatries at 11:00 at night! I'll make the French Press!

  20. Anonymous3:12 AM

These mugs are simply wonderful!! Is there a site where you can buy them?? Happy new year, darling!

  21. Anonymous7:05 PM

"Not a whit, we defy augury; there's a special providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now, 'tis not to come; if it be not to come, it well be now; if it be not now, yet it will come; the READINESS is all." Shakespeare's Hamlet. So, all things considered, just how not ready are you?

Want Nougat? Try Sally Williams, available for order at Kosher, vegan, Halaal, imported from South Africa. Many types and flavors, with almonds or macadamias (or both), with or without dark or milk chocolate coating. Yum-yum-more!

Love hearing from you
