Remember I mentioned PB reader, Susanne, who lives in the 7th arron.
Well yesterday I did it. I booked my March trip to Paris. And I'll be staying in Susanne's pied-a-terre. This gorgeous hunk of quiche we ate comes from the boulangerie right downstairs by the way.
Susanne has moved on to a tiny village in Vermont. Yes it's true. I wonder if she's taken her blue and white treasures with her. Or will I get a chance to paint them. Susanne's place is a flea market shoppers dream, in case you didn't already notice.
Did I mention that Susanne's place is on the 6th floor?
I'm working out as I write this, prepping for climbing up those stairs.

I expect to collapse regularly into this cafe nearby.
Or this classic bistro - La Fontaine de Mars

If I get homesick (never happens) there's the cafe Tribeca on rue Cler.
The fleamarket was closing by the time I got there but it looked terrific! I have to admit I've never been to rue Cler before. Dommage
(ext.3)For some reason I can't explain, I always procrastiinate like crazy booking my Air France ticket. And I always lose the AirFrance telephone number so I'm putting it here in bold type for next time

That's so great that you're going to Paris in March. I always delay making flight reservations as well, but I did just book for the month of April. I've found an apartment in the 6th and am so excited! When you're there in March, could you please alert us readers about any particularly wonderful art exhibits or brocantes coming up? Or even musical events in one of the historic buildings? You've created a monster....I'm dying to go to one of those chocolate festivals after seeing all your photos a few months back!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
Janie
P.S. I also want to paint there....do you have any suggestions for drop-in classes, other than La Grande Chaumiere?
Debauve & Gallais is a bit on the outter edge of the 7th but still a divine place...
ReplyDelete30 rue des Saints-Peres
great news...enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeletei leave for italy the 15th of this month...doing the tuscany stuff and then south to visit family in rome and do things in-around. of course rome is not paris but it will be good to be back again.
DEYROLLE at 46, rue du bac
ReplyDeleteI don't think you've ever mentioned it and it's definitely a must see!!
We usually stay just up the Avenue from you - Hotel Eber Mars with a view of the Eiffel Tower from our balcony - c'est magnifique!! and only 110Euros per night. Rue Cler just around the corner - great for breakfast, market shopping, etc. Bon Voyage!!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun. The time sure does roll around fast. seems like you were just going last fall.
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth would someone move to Vermont who had that view in Paris?
Oh you are going to have a great time exploring this new neighborhood! How exciting and what a lovely place you have to stay in:)
ReplyDeleteCheers, Shelagh
The stairs will allow you to visit each and every chocolatier encore plus fois!!!
ReplyDeleteKaren
PS Stumbled on your site yesterday. I am a painter, have lived in Paris, now NYC, and enjoy your thoughts. I started planning another visit this year just the other day with my fiancee...
Oh my god !!!
ReplyDeleteC'est ça le vrai luxe !!!
OHHHH...what a beauty....love this kitty!!
ReplyDeleteYIPPEEEE! So so very nice. March, hm...let me think.
ReplyDeleteHi, I just stumbled across your blog and bookmarked it- love your paintings of all things paris, and I've loved Paris ever since studying there in '92..now I live in Munich, but was just there last weekend and stayed in Rue Cler neighborhood- its lovely!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I just started a blog to document past travels, starting with Paris (and its the only post right now!) about the Rue Cler neighborhood- mostly just eating my way through it:)
http://wanderlust-journal.blogspot.com/
I also began a blog for my creative postings (Creative Every Day inspired me), but I'm not ready to distribute that:)
Anyway, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in Paris! Dont forget to explore Le Marais arr. and you might also be interested in a neat little 'artists' shop called Carre D'Artistes- if you dont know it! (www.carredartistes.com)
p.s. I now see my Laduree macaroons in a new light!
I will gladly carry your bags and parcels up all of those stairs if you take me along!
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting time to look forward to. Exploring a new area will be a thrill. Please take lots of photos when you go. We all would love to be there with you, even if only in thought!

DEAL DEBRA!
ReplyDeleteI'm adding your name to the Wait List.
Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cafe in the VIIeme is the Terrasse on the corner of Avenue Bosquet & Avenue de la Motte Piquet (right outside the Metro Ecole-Militaire). Directly across the street in a great stationer/book store.

Hi My name is Susan and I live in Charlotte North Carolina. I saw your site on paris artwork and I am going to Paris in May and June 2009. Could you tell me where I can find street art---watercolours especially --- in paris ??? I would like to buy really nice art and I don't know where the best place is to find it
ReplyDeleteBonjour, Carol!
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying receiving your Paris Breakfasts blog daily since searching frantically on the Internet for a macaron fix a year or so ago. Thanks so much for brightening my mornings!
I wanted to share with you, looking at the location of your intended next visit, that there is a wonderful Indo-Pak restaurant nearby on Avenue Rapp called New Jawad that was very convenient to a place we last stayed just around the corner from where it looks like you will be staying. We rented the lovely Fleurie from Paris Perfect on that particular trip.
It was such a lovely neighborhood, and our two young children were able to play with other children at the smaller, lesser-known parks in the area. We had been contemplating a return in March during Spring Break since we are expecting our 3rd in July and we probably won't travel for another year ... your blog just gave me the oomph to look at frequent flyer ticket availability again!!
A bien tot!
Mona
New Jawad
ReplyDeleteOh! What a wonderful Parisian trip it will be for you. It's been just under a year since I've been... your lovely photos make me realize I'm in desperate need of a return, hehe.
ReplyDeleteI want that cat!
ReplyDeleteOMG lucky lucky you! I stay in the 8th when I go but I can't really recommend anything in the 7th. Oh, it's ALL good :)

I'll be sleeping under the stairs...Shhhhhh
That little kitty is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of the knic-knacs are priceless. Just the kind I like to see. Good job in the loo by the way!

ReplyDeleteBrava, I am happy for you that you are book and almost ready to fly the coop! :-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the French count the floors like the Viennese and Romans do: they don't count the rez-de-chaussée - the American First Floor - and start only from the floor above, the American 2nd floor becoming the first floor, and so on.
That "Fiori di Capri" perfume bottle speaks of sunny summer days on a beautiful island in the gulf of Neaples. I could need a few hours of sunshine to break up all they grey here.
I am going to Paris in March to get away from the builders who are coming to install a new chimney and wood burning stove. I can't live with all that again.
ReplyDeleteWhen are you going so hopefully we can meet up this time?
Paris 7e ?
ReplyDeleteMany museums (Rodin/ Maillol/ Orsay/ Branly), gardens, monuments ...
The exhibition about painter Séraphine de Senlis has been extended to end of March at Musée Maillol: www.museemaillol.com
For more, ring the Mayor of 7e, our Secretary of Justice : Rachida Dati !!!
Marie-Noëlle
PS - Christian Constant runs 4 restaurants in rue St Dominique... you should not starve by there ...!

What lovely photos! I've a passion for blue and white as well-an obsession passes down through the generations.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of your friend's blue and white mugs struck me as awfully familiar. I have a very similar, if not the same, collection of mugs. I worked for Crabtree and Evelyn for many years and collected the annual treasured startin in 1987.
Love your site-beautiful paintings...
