Le Bonbon au Palais

When in Paris, do not miss a visit to
Le Bonbon au Palais
19 rue Monge 75005
Open Tuesday - Saturday, 11am - 7:30pm

Step inside and you'll wonder where you are? Back in a gradeschool classroom?

Under banks of apothecary jars full of French regional candies, old-fashioned school desks are waiting...

 Take your places children!
But this schoolroom is a barrel of fun with no homework required.

Look carefully in the candy cases and you'll find inside old school things of shop owner Georges.

Georges was born in Brazil and came to France at age 4, and like most French, he is deeply attached to the souvenirs of his childhood. Especially the candies!

The walls of Le Bonbon au Palais are covered with old posters from schooldays...

Georges is happy to give you a petit lecon in geographie. Where to find the best regional French candies in France.

The glass jars call to you with

La creme de la creme of France's best bonbons.

Georges offers goodie bags and boxes with a melange of tastes for all pocketbooks plus a few surprise free samples!

Coussin de Lyon is noted for their marzipan blue pillows of sweetness.

Le Bonbon au Palais offers so many paintable still life opportunities. I'll do more when I get home.

Though the shop only opened 3 years ago, it's level of excellence was noted in Alain Ducasses' J'Aime Paris.

Across the street is a children's playground.

Creating Le Bonbon au Palais has been Georges' lifelong dream.

This shop is just a block down the street from our place and I still haven't gotten in there! We walked past it half a dozen times the last week, but alas...we're back home in the States tonight. Your pictures make me want to kick myself for not visiting while we could. Guess it will have to wait till October's trip.

  7. I want that entire collection of glass bottles ....even though they don't conjure up any of my childhood memories. for that, I simply drool over the black and white descriptions in the Vermont Country Store catalogue. Now I'm off to the cousin de Lyon website to investigate their very tromp l'oeil candy!

  8. Wondrous, like a candy wonderland, and more!

There is a candy store across from the French school here in Vienna. When school lets out, children line up to get their daily vitamins. ;-)

  12. It's so heartwarming to see the loves in Georges' heart truly materialized in the outside world. And that you have such a gifted eye to see and artistically share it Carol in an artistic manner...inspiring us to do and be more.

    LOVE it!

  13. Thanks so much for these posts.
I have become addicted. We were just there a month ago and caught the Fete du Pain in front of Notre Dame. A real treat for me as an amateur bread maker.
I lived in France from 91 to 96. Not in Paris but the south - old domaine near Brignoles, then finally near Aix.
    Keep up the good work.

There's an antique map store in Passage Vivienne or try Au Petit Bonheur La Chance on rue 13, St.Paul 75003
