Tell me if you know the correct name.I don't know any names or anything about how to take care of my new orchids.
Tell me if you know the correct name.I don't know any names or anything about how to take care of my new orchids.
But Google will help I'm sure. They always have an exhibit upstairs of the prize winners from The New York Orchid Society..
Downstairs they sell the plants.
I know ZIP about orchids but I know beautiful pictures when I see them!
ReplyDeleteMerci for brightening my morning :)
I had heard, on NPR, that NY was having its orchid show!! Good for you--lovely!
ReplyDeleteA Granny Smith Apple green orchid! Is this one of three you took home? I am green with envy!
ReplyDeleteAfter Christmas I like to keep a Phalaenopsis amabilis orchid, or two, in pure white.
Merisi
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the 3 I got, but with a yellow center -
a Phalaenopsis amabilis orchid - who can pronouce these orchids?
French is easy next to these...
Absolutely gorgeous flowers!
ReplyDeleteIn French, the green ones are called "cymbidiums"... waiting for their English name!
Wonderful painting!
ReplyDeleteI like the pink baby blossom too!
What flower are you?
ReplyDeleteI have collected orchids for many years, but I don't know anything about their names.....
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the baby pink ;-)
Back in the 1980s we were doing an ad for a heating company and we used an orchid for the photo shoot. We had to borrow it from the RHS and have it insured. Now you can buy them anywhere. What happened. Stunning photographs Carol.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get my subscrition in my email today and tried your blog site to check if you put something up and couldnt get on. I FINALLY did and look what I was missing. WOW.. FANTASTIC painting and ORCHIDS I love them. Always went to the orcid show in CA the the South Coast plaza and owned a few.. Tempermental bugars. I only brought one with me when we moved to OR. It has bloomed once in our sunroom since we moved here... I think It needs more mositure around it. They dont like their feet sitting in water and they dont like alot of watering but they like being set on pebbles with water in them just not so they soak it up in the roots as they rot. You feed them when they arent blooming. Thats about all I know.
ReplyDeleteLovely blog today.

Thanks for the orchid care tips - I get some pebbles PDQ
Marie-Noëlle they are called by their Latin names here too, "cymbidiums". Specially bred versions get their own name...
Daisy my "birth" flower is lilly of the Valley and I've always loved it, but it doesn't hang around very long :(
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love them, but have no skill with any plants. The black thumb I have inherited from my mother.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and beautiful flowers - I didn't get my e-mail this morning either and just now remembered to check your site. Is there a problem? I hope I receive tomorrow.
Sandy
Coincidentally, I went to the Wild Animal Park in Escondido, CA a couple of weeks ago where they had an orchid display. The variety and kaleidescope colors were amazing, like your photos! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSuch exotic flowers....I know they are going to be stunning in your artwork...can`t wait to see....
ReplyDeleteI love orchids, they have such an unique shape and are so beautiful, Love your painting!

i love the orchid show. i used to work in the diamond district right at rockefeller center during college, and that was always such a big highlight.
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteYour picture in beatiful. I love orchids and have been to that show before. The flowers go on forever....I have owned several wonderful orchids...but I have trouble keeping them alive and blooming. Oh well.
Now if they could only come up with a chocolate orchid that your could eat as well as smell...........ummmm um.
ReplyDeleteI almost screamed as I scrolled down your wonderful page of color plays and happened upon all those orchids. You see, I LOVE orchids. I know absolutely nothing about them, but they practically make me swoon. What a treat!
ReplyDeleteMeilleurs voeux!!
Im not sure if you figured out the whole name, i saw someone said the genus name, but the whole thing is Cymbidium Barcelona or also 'Magic Wand'.
ReplyDeleteThese are really beautiful flowers. I envy you that you got to take these orchids home with you. I will have to go to the new york orchid show and see if I can walk home with some beautiful orchid plants. The granny smith apple orchid is my favorite type of orchid and my favorite color.
