While in London I stopped in Peggy Porschen's Parlour on 116 Ebury Street, Belgravia SW1.
First I looked in her Academy just to get in the mood,
Oh my...
Is this pink chefs jacket not swoon-worthy?
Further down Elizabeth Street Peggy's pink parlour fills up a whole corner. And to think I was afraid I wouldn't find it.
Peggy's patisserie is every little girl's fondest dream.
And there was a steady stream of pretty little British misses coming in and out
For divine cupcakes and other goodies.
And why not? Pink heaven!
The Brides-to-be back room is full of Peggy's stunning wedding cakes. Oh my...
Then we were treated to an afternoon tea set for royal princesses.
The glorious cakes just kept coming.
I know the back far right is Peggy's 'Tipsy Orange Truffle' cake - a fragrant orange sponge infused with Cointreau plus orange marmelade and chocolate ganache layers (simply to-die-for).
Was this Peggy's 'Glorious Victoria'?
Moist Victoria sponge baked with real vanilla, layered with raspberry jam and vanilla bean buttercream. The top had the most exquisite lacy decoration. Almost too beautiful to eat but we forced ourselves. Ha! We both felt like 'Alice' at the maddest tea party ever. The ooos and ahhs.
Of course we had to taste one of Peggy's perfect cupcakes. We picked the red velvet 'with heavenly cream cheese frosting'. And we both bought boxes of cupcakes to take away for whatever excuses we could come up with.
Doodly-doodly-do
Peggy was away so we haven't met yet, but the final dessert was a sneak peek at the Boutique Baking book
I did the cover artwork for (coming out in May in the UK).

Last December I worked and salivated over photos of Peggy's luscious cakes and shots of her shop. It was a delight to actually sit there and take an afternoon tea I'll never forget. THANK YOU Peggy!
Do stop in if you're in London. I promise you a memorable experience. Just take any London bus that goes to Victoria Station(11,36,148), then walk towards the 'pink corner' on 116 Ebury street.
CHEERS!

ReplyDeletethere's that spritely little doggie again,
looking me in the eye.
Great post and absolutely wonderful and appropriate cover, Carol.
There must be a tactful way to receive samples - purely for RESEARCH and INSPIRATION - whilst you work on your lovely menus. Say a couple of dozen treats for a month or so. Yes, that should do it.
ReplyDeleteWow, best cake you've ever had! That's quite a plug for Peggy's.
ReplyDeleteI like how bright the store is - the interior, I mean :)
Congrats on the book cover!
I was most excited to read about that book cover illustration...
ReplyDeleteYou've been published now! Congratulations!
Wow! Congratulations on the cover! That's so very exciting. Brava!
ReplyDeleteOooo I'm so jealous I'd love to go to Peggy Porschen's, can see a purchase coming on when the beautifully designed book comes out - well done you it's beautiful and I'm a sucker for anything with boutique or boudoir in the name! xx

ReplyDeleteWOW.. love this article. I have been a fan of Peggy Porschen for a very long time since I started decorating.. I would love to visit her shop, it is so adorable and PINK.. I too love pink. It would be nice to taste and see her work in person since I only see it in her book I own. Thanks for sharing.. I no longer decorate cakes..but, I do something i love much more. I make sugar flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteI had the biggest thrill a couple of weeks ago when I actually got to go to Peggy's Shop. I live in Canada so when I was visiting a friend in London I made sure that visiting Peggy's shop was top of my list of things to do (as well as the Academy down the road)It was such a thrill to actually be in the shop. I too bought a box of cupcakes to go and savoured every bite. Peggy was not there but I hope to someday meet her :)
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is YUM!
ReplyDeleteMust. Go. There. Someday.
I always thought those pretty cakes couldn't possibly taste delicious. And something about them brings out the little girl in me. So pretty! I was thinking Alice in Wonderland too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book cover. Movin' on up!
I just saw that you did a watercolour for Peggy Porschen - my favourite cake place in London - way too close to my flat
ReplyDelete(I go at least once a weekend for their Victoria sponge!)
I knew I loved the artwork for her shop from somewhere!
