Printemps - Christmas in Paper, your wishes are granted

On Tuesday night I finally got to see Department store Printemps bird-filled windows

Night time is definitely the best time to view holiday windows in Paris

No distracting reflections.

Not so crazy busy either - most kiddies are home in bed…

What a fabulous surprise it was.

Animated birds flying over Paris rooftops

Delivering holiday greetings of joy. The theme - birds sending holiday messages

Beautifully detailed and whimsical, wise owls in this case. And so many envelopes ๐Ÿ’Œ! Very relatable for me ๐Ÿ“ฎ

95 articulated puppets with over 170,000 paper decorations

All designed by paper artist, extraordinaire,
Mathilde Nivet.

Printemps has a small exhibit exploring the window’s inspirations & preparatory models/maquettes made by Nivet.

On their little bridge, second floor, between the 2 buildings

A chance to get up close to the birds ๐Ÿฆ like this classic Paris pigeon. Every feather ๐Ÿชถ is carefully cut ✂️

Another maquette, tropical ๐ŸŒด

The window outside. This one is definitely full of parrots ๐Ÿฆœ

Sources of graphic inspiration for Nivet from vases to manuscripts.

A ‘60s Printemps holiday card showing the store as a golden cage full of whimsical birds

Throughout the building more cut paper fantasies

Paper Christmas trees

What a beautiful & thoughtful collaboration between Printemps and artist Mathilde Nivet. Perhaps the best I’ve seen this year.

Stacks of envelopes ๐Ÿ’Œ used as decoration, looked so familiar to me ☺️

Last night I got to hand-deliver some Paris letters ๐Ÿ’Œ

Angelina Bear party is waiting for you in my Etsy shop along with other goodies.
☕️ Or buy me a KO-FI ☕️
Sending a Happy Friday to you dear PBers

You lift my spirits with your own creativity. These paper creations equal or surpass the windows I have enjoyed over decades in NYC. Merci Beaucoup.

Wow! Now THIS is my idea of Christmas in a window. I love this for so many reasons -- the theme, the execution, the fact that there is so much paper and so beautifully designed and created. Thanks for this. Gives my heart hope for holiday windows! Jeanie

This is just wonderful! So much creativity, whimsy, color, delightful imagination and then the attention to detail are all astonishing. It brings delight to the mind and makes one feel hopeful for the future. Also, the level of commitment from Le Printemps staff is impressive. I’d love to know how long it took Ms. Nivet to carry this project out. Just incredible! Thanks for highlighting this so we can all share.
