Petit Four Euphoria

Carol Gillott When I devoured this little passion fruit tartelette from Financier Pastries at FlowerSchool NY a few weeks ago, who knew...

Carol Gillott Petit Fours, art at Etsy, 9" x 11"
I spent this week grappling with a Tuna fish sandwich and even more Parisien petit fours? C'est la vie...Carol GillottMost people waltz into Champs-Elysees and head straight for the macaron counter. They completely miss the tray of mini petit fours by the cash register, but not me/mais pas moi.
Carol Gillott What better way to taste a little bite of everything inhouse for less calories (like who's counting) and less dough? Carol Gillott These are not those horrid little sugary squares of iced yellow cake we know too well and hate, but mini tastes of framboise and religieuse bite-sized...
Carol Gillott I made this astonishing discovery my last morning in Paris. I raced to buy these and then raced home to shoot setups of these sweet minis....
Naturelement I had to eat them up before racing off to catch the plane, but they were mostly fruity anyway. *Try not to race around too much when you're bringing these babies home or they'll show serious wear and tear. They ARE delicate.
Most patisseries have these mini delights like Dalloyau. And they don't cost too much - 10 petit fours(13 euros)

Carol Gillott Fauchon and Gerard Mulot have them.

Yellow Bird is very fond of the mini Baba au rhume petit four...

Carol Gillott BEAR is not so picky and will happily settle for the whole plate

  1. mmmm, I am drooling over the petite bag, too...

  2. Darling Carol,
I love when you put in your pictures little birds!!!
I hope you have a good weekend!
    SEe you,
    Paula K.

  3. Mmmmm I can never resist the baba au rhum when I'm in France, love those! The rose petal on top of that other petit four is just beautiful. Enjoy!

  4. What a delicious post! Next time I have the pleasure of visiting La Duree I will have to check these sweet treats out - thanks:)

  5. Carol!
Have you heard the news? Laduree will be opening up on Madison Avenue in July! Paris in New York! I can't wait!

  6. Wow, those are great shots! Delicious :)
Good to see BEAR enjoying a plate.
    Have a great weekend!

  7. Toujours de la délicatesse et de la gourmandise.....

    Bon weekend

I promise I wont miss them --- i remember seeing those gorgeous little things on my first visit to paris and I knew I didn't have to settle for one! mmm
    Paris tomorrow x

  9. Laduree told me last June '10(we took a meeting..) that they were opening up in New York (864 Madison Avenue at 70th street).
I have to say I didn't quite believe them at the time.
    On verra bien...
They also said they were opening a 'Spa' hotel (they didn't say where exactly).
    More on verra bien...

  10. beautiful post ... I remember when Fauchon opened on Park, it's not there anymore, is it? Will watch for news of Laduree opening. Bonjour

  11. I should have eaten breakfast before reading your post... I will be thinking about these beautiful treats all day. :-) And where can I find a tablecloth like this one?

  12. Just found your blog...a delight to the taste buds. I have such a sweet tooth for pastries, by pastries i mean really good pastries and have no remorse gaining calories on Laduree petit fours. They are opening a shop in New York this summer, I am in deep trouble as I cannot walk by their window in Paris and not stop in

  13. Outstanding research!!!!! This discovery is one of the most significant developments since (sliced bread?) - ever! I plan to devote myself exclusively to the mini when I arrive in Paris!

  14. They do have watercolor/pastel colors and are a great inspiration for illustration.
    Love them!

  15. Bonjour Carol.

The picture of that little Yellow Bird contemplating that little baba made me laugh. What a sense of scale!

Before any feelings are dampened, let me add how great it was to see that Bear was able to savor that entire collection of French finesse.

And also pretty wonderful to think that New Yorkers will soon be able to sample some French finesse over on Madison Ave!

    Best wishes. xo

  16. Ah, petits fours--my family always had them at Christmas time. Once, as teenagers, we made them at home. Great fun. Love the watercolors, Carol!

  17. Do those things actually taste good or just look mignon?

  18. Jeanne-

Just a common everyday French dish towel the petit fours are sitting on top of.

    But what a good idea!

PB readers are sharp as whips!

  19. oh blast. Baba au rhum and not a patisserie in sight. I'm going to have to settle for French Toast!

  20. Bonour PB~
    What a wonderful post!
Something else to add to my "to do" list while Paris.
    Merci beaucoup!!

  21. The petit fours are like exquisite little jewel boxes. Love the flower arrangement too.

Yes, I just saw a news story that Laduree is indeed coming to NYC. Heaven.

I loved this post and I do love me some sweets. But I'm just back from the Farmers Market with vegetables.

  23. Gorgeous! Especially love the baby baba au rhume + yellow bird...a perfect match! :)

  24. Carol how incredibly luscious these appear. I think you should open a patisserie

  25. Oh what a great tip. Especially for those of us who just have to try EVERYTHING. I'll definitely check these out for next trip to Paris.

  26. Bear has such a wonderful life. He even eats off a red and white tablecloth!

  27. You're right! Petit Fours don't get enough credit. They are fabulous.

  28. Oh I miss it! I was in Paris last month and had tea and macarons on the Champs-Elysees twice. It was perfection!

Thanks for the gorgeous pictures...I can't wait to go back!

  29. In the future, I shall put a silicon mini-muffin pan over my keyboard, mamma mia, you are a seductress of the first order! Those tiny morsels look oh so good, as do your paintings!

  30. These look good enough to eat..:) Your paintings do too. Lovely. All of it.

  31. They are GORGEOUS!!! Oh my. I just wrote on my blog about the petit fours I served at my wedding (Mom and I topped them with sugared violets)...and while they were delicious, they were NOTHING like these.

My cute little ballerina flats I got in Paris last visit just blew the bow off the top today. I think the petit fours AND the shoe fiasco are telling me that I need to go back to Paris and soon.

  32. This post is absolutely gorgeous Carolg !!! and your petit four painting adorable ! I have to go and buy some right now, hi from Paris and lots of love :)

Love hearing from you
