It's that time of year again when I should be packing...
It seems like "taking coals to Newcastle", bringing my mini Eiffel Tower and tiny desserts with me to Paris...
Will I ever get upclose and personal with this Paris monument is the question..? Don't I owe it some respect? Is keeping it at a distance really friendly considering how many times I've painted the damn thing...grumble...grumble Let the it be known that I have never been to the Statue of Liberty either.
The only reason I ever got to the top of the Empire State building was my two dear petite nieces dragged me up there - fear of heights..ahem.
Of course no problem with getting close to this baby. Or this one!
YUM! I could so easily take a bite of this Eiffel Tower...
The best solution could be these.
I do plan visits to Versailles, Chantilly, Fontainbleau, Sevres...
On verra bien as the French say (we shall see)
BON WEEK-END!

Just in time for your trip—you can check out the Marais quartier!

I hope Yellow Bird is coming along?
ReplyDeleteOh, the Eiffel Tower is sooo worth the trip up – the view is spectacular and it is such an amazing structure.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you already know about this, but the Porcelain museum in Sevres is absolutely breath taking http://www.musee-ceramique-sevres.fr/homes/home_id24901_u1l2.htm. I always love visiting the Chateau in Chantilly with its amazing private collection of art….
It is so fun to vicariously enjoy the country I lived in for 14 years and love so much through your daily posts!!!!
Jerie
your blog is making me pine for France!! fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteHey I love near Newcastle (one word) but I never ever take coals. What a small world this is I had no idea this saying was used in America :)
ReplyDeleteOh the excitement it building up for your trip. Packing is the beginning. Making lists of things to do and buy. Anything you forgot last time should be first on that list. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you mean you have never been up close to the Eiffel tower or UP IN the tower.? I would go SEE it but no way would I be able to go up it. Not unless someone plans to take care of a zombie afterwards. :))
But surely you don't mean you have never been to the area AT the Eiffel Tower? You've never had a picnic at the Champs de Mars? You've never gone to see the fireworks on Bastille Day?
ReplyDeleteI used to walk underneath la tour eiffel on my way to school each day and I've been up in the tower twice. It's a beautiful area and really worth the visit.
Bon jour cher ami,
ReplyDeleteI drink in your website every time I visit ... it's one of the 'buffers' that I need when I return from France. I just had a wonderful exposition of my Jazz series in Antibes (Riviera) for the Jazz Festival in Juan-les-Pins. Ideally, a flat in Paris and a villa in Antibes would be the ideal dream.
Your website is so beautiful ... and, Oui, go to the top of the Tour Eiffel - at night. It's almost heaven for sure. ... and certainly report back with your witty words and luscious images.
Bon Voyage !
Ann
I'm afraid of heights. I went to the top of La Tour Eiffel anyway. It was terrifying (it sways in the wind!) and magnificent (oh ... the view). I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to hearing about your experiences (and seeing all the paintings you will do).

Bon Voyages, Carol!
ReplyDeleteWe are in Paris now and loving every minute of it. Your daily posts have added much to my experience here.
Question: Do you have a favorite place here where one can buy a nice watercolor brush?
Merci beaucoup,
Wendy
Dear Carol,
ReplyDeleteIf you get to Chantilly, stay for lunch. They build a fire in the
fireplace and serve a wonderful lunch. Bon Voyage.
WHAT??? You have never been to the Eiffel Tower?!?
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to actually go UP on it to appreciate its majesty. Please do go stroll by, or under, or at least get nearer.
I know lots of your photos are close-ups, but this has amazing graphics to it.
Wonderful, just wonderful, you bring a smile to my heart. Thanks for it all!
ReplyDeleteBonjour,
ReplyDelete(I love my Eiffel Tower key ring!) I am so jealous. If you haven't been to La Sainte Chapelle, you must go. It's really like the guide books say: like being inside a Tiffany jewel box.
Bon voyage!
Robin
(Looking forward to your reports from Paris!)
just so you know, the Eiffel Tower used to twinkle for 17 minutes every hour on the hour after dark, but today it was announced that in order to save money or go "green", they will only have it twinkle 5 minutes. I think 5 minutes is already quite good!

ReplyDeleteBon Voyage !
OMG! Look at the comment I left on your Flickr page!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely like to get up close and personal with that chocolate Eiffel. I really appreciate your giving me a heads-up on the count down to your departure. I have soooo much to do to get ready for your trip: re-stock baking chocolate, get in new supply of Valhrona cocoa, find that passionfruit marshmallow recipe (I already have the puree), send for almond flour for macarrons - no - just order some! Your trips are murder to get ready for....
:-)
ps- yes, where can one buy a nice watercolor brush?
Bon jour cher ami,

I'm off Wed next for a 13 day trip to Paris and Provence - I suspect we'll overlap. Hope to get some serious sketching done - I know you will.
ReplyDeleteI am still dreaming of the day I can make that trip, but at least visiting your beautiful blog is the next best thing!
ReplyDeleteFunny, for me, the tour was something I had to touch. I was part of my life dream of being in Paris and if I hadn't touched it, it wasn't a real trip! I understand height fears. have you ever just gone to the tour and stood under it? Try it and look up! I can see it if I close my eyes! :) A bientot
ReplyDeletemoi chef patisserie cherche travaille.....ok
ReplyDeleteI too have never been up theTour Eiffel.
ReplyDeleteThough I have looked at its underbelly quite often.
Paris too me is elegant, a bit chilly, but the home of wonderful 'flan'.
Eat lots for me!
Dear friend go to the tower and walk amongst the rose garden beneath the tower and think of me.Memories of being there still linger.. Ahh..Versailles yes I was there..I am sure you will be in awe..oh and think of me when you agian visit Ladulee..
ReplyDeleteOne last thing say hello to Tara!
Au revoir NG
i have those exact earrings... it was the one little souvenier du tourist i permitted myself. the cool thing about them is that with my silver hair they look like dangly earrings until you get real close, then people laugh and say, i love your eiffel tower earrings. i've been to the top of the eiffel tower and, even though i live in NYC, to the top of the empire state building, the statute of liberty and before it was gone, the world trade center. even the top of the chrysler building when i was a kid. i like heights, i guess.
ReplyDeleteOMG, Carol--I have a MAJOR fear of heights and even I have been to the top of the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower. Love your sweet painting of it! Cheers! I even went with my dad once to the top of the WTC when it was still there, and now that it's not, I'm forever grateful I did do that...
