I thought I'd let you get into the mood right from the start of today's post on Tiffany's...
Let's go inside first!
Inside Tiffany is a big, spacious well-lite room, so you can't miss those diamonds. I was shooting the interior decorations when a "French" person came up to me and requested most politely that I not shoot inside.
So out to Tiffany's 4 windows - naturally they have a winter theme -

ice, ice, and more ice.
Plenty to Oooo and Ahhh over...
Plenty to Oooo and Ahhh over...
But what is going on here?
A golden egg full of feathers surrounded by diamonds and snow...OK
This one has a tiny sley in the midst of glitzy christmas trees...hmmm..
Here's an interior view with silver tableware - Oooo...Ahhhh...zzzzz
But in the good old days, when Gene Moore did Tiffany's windows, your socks would be knocked off clear accross the street! He could fill a window with popcorn, pasta, ice cream cones AND NO DIAMONDS! and your jaw would drop to the ground in wonderment.
Moore can take credit for putting belly buttons on mannequins and for placing kissing rhinos beneath a Valentine's Day heart.
Oh well in the meantime we'll just have to make do with this darling be-jeweled diamond deer...
Audrey Hepburn and Tiffany's go together like caviar and Champagne - both timeless classics. It's hard to think of one without the other is it not PB readers? I noticed there's a new Audrey book in bookstore windows by fashion photographer, Howell Conant, who took publicity shots on set during the filming of Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Love that interior shot! Good work, kiddo. :-)))
ReplyDeleteThe Tiffany windows in Vienna are so bare boned, it's almost offensive. I was really looking forward to them coming to Vienna, alas, what a disappointment!
Thanks for giving us a glimpse of the wonderland the created in NY.
I love I love I love, j'adore, merci encore, as I know I will never in my life see Tiffany's winter windows.
ReplyDeleteThe art of Gene Moore, "make people stop", simple and yet deliciously marvelous. I must say, I stopped here and lingered...thanks..can't wait for the rest of the tour...yum.
ReplyDeleteall best, Jan
Absolutely divine!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
How Ironic that it be someone French to stop you photographing inside. But You did get one inside. BIG SMILE. The windows are beautiful. I couldn't pick just one window as a favorite. Thanks for taking us with you and Audrey. My Favorite movie of all time. Now I've had Breakfast at Tiffany's..but where's the pastry and coffee?
ReplyDeleteLovely photos
ReplyDelete"sleigh" of course.
EXQUISITE!!! I can't think of Tiffany's either without Audrey ... everything they do is so first-class ... what eye candy today!
ReplyDeleteAll the NY windows are such fun during the holidays. Thanks for taking us there, Carol! I liked the egg with the feathers! Is it Faberge inspired?

I'm enjoying your tour of New York Christmas windows. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, there is a Parisian macaron Christmas tree on Frenchless in France's Dec. 19 post - have you seen it? I know how you love macarons.
Frenchless in France is on my sidebar, if you've not visited her before.
Sara, I've seen those towers of Macs all year long.
ReplyDeleteThey're for special occasions whenever I believe.
Please fax us your menu to 0820890338

REGARDE:
one macaron tree
And another mac tree!
Also PLEASE NOTE:

:)
Thanks for bringing tidings of comfort and joy, Carol. I adore your blog and covet your paintings. My best, Clichy Rose
ReplyDeleteAh, beutiful shots. I HEART Audrey :)
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see how NYC looks like as I will be there in a month. And just now I found out from Merisi that you live in New York! All this time I thought you were in Paris, hehe...
xoxo
You do get thrown out of the best places! I adore the front doors of our local Tiffany's - they're giant stainless steel vault doors with brass bolt trim!
ReplyDeleteAs for Audrey -- what makes her so compelling?
Ineffable charm is what she had...
ReplyDeleteWhatever that is..
I love getting my daily dose of PB inspiration in the mornings!
ReplyDeleteI almost had a croissant this today, no joke!
I'm enjoying your NY show.
ReplyDeleteWe were just there last week but had some winter weather and did not do as much strolling as we would have liked.
Do check out our favorite store from SF and been getting rave reviews - De Vera on Crosby Street.
I don’t get to go to NY to see the windows so what a treat to see such good shots on your site.
ReplyDeleteI can dream I'm there while here in Atlanta it is chilly and rainy...
I have to say that the windows in NYC are just as lovely and striking as those I've seen in Paris.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they thought you were taking photographs in preperation for a robbery !
