No more umbrellas to be seen on the beach ๐️ last Sunday in August in Trouville/ Deauville.
I walked down and put my feet in the bracing water along with the die-hard bathers ๐♂️
I got moules mariniรจre again at Chez Peppy’s
Why was I surprised to see everyone wearing Fall clothes on the last day of August? Like sweatshirts with hoodies and leggings.
Why did I wear my Summery French Workman’s jacket, though I thought briefly about the quilted Uniqlo navy jacket ๐ which everyone else was wearing.
Look ๐Rue Saint Germain. It’s perfectly normal to find the same street names all over France ๐ซ๐ท you find in Paris, but I’m still surprised. Usually they commemorate a person or saint.
The writer Gustave Flaubert used to summer in Trouville as did Monet, Eugene Boudin, Proust of Paris’ bohemian smart set, flocked here after the train ๐ line from Paris opened in 1863.
i.e. Hotel Flaubert along the beach.
A side street decorated with flower boxes. Trouville is such a pretty town to wander through. It’s more than the beach.
A closer look at those beloved ❤️๐ Favorie berries.
Please don’t miss out on apple ๐ drinks when in Normandie.
These 2 sister French towns offer the best of both worlds if you want high-end food + elegance or down to earth simple pleasures in my opinion. And just a short walk either left or right once out of the train station.
❤️ ๐ซ๐ท
I’m Carol Gillott, an artist living in Paris. Every month I send out beautifully illustrated letters ๐ from ETSY that capture the true Parisian experience.
And dog ๐ถ of the day in Deauville.
♥️ so nice to follow along!
ReplyDeleteFrench towns. Sigh....thank you.
ReplyDeleteI Will try to do more day trips outside Paris in the future. It’s refreshing for me too.
DeleteSo beautiful Carol!!! You remind us that France is more than Paris!! How lucky you are to be able to visit all these wonderful places on day trips!! Love you!! ๐ ๐จ๐ฆ
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole. There is so much more to France ๐ซ๐ท than grand chateaux and 3 star dinners and just a few hours train ride just outside Paris ๐
DeleteSimply wonderful. Trouville- Deauville are two sister towns amazing to visit while in France. The casino in Deauville is great. I was there once. Magnificent. The water on tje beach is really cold, though. Only for brave swimmers, IMHO. Lol. Regards, Isabelle
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to go in the water ๐ if I had a suit and a towel
DeleteI was in Trouville’s Casino but not yet Deauville casino.
DeleteMore Trouville/Deauville! Wonderful, Carol! The seafood really calls to me. I hope you’ll be our tour guide if we get a fair weather day in October. ๐๐ป
ReplyDeleteWho cares about the weather ๐ฅฐ
DeleteI look at that beach and pretend I am in a hotel room there. Lynne
ReplyDeleteMerci Carol, for this little bit of waning summer. ๐
ReplyDeleteOH, CAROL!!! OVER THE TOP!!! ๐๐๐❤️

ReplyDeleteust fyi, a “transat” from the Trouville beach sign is a deck chair. Must be from this transatlantic sea voyages. Best, Ann
ReplyDeleteA trip to the beach is always good! Thanks for showing us around these two French towns. I’ve never been to them when in France, add them to the wish list! The strawberries do look very good.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, we are hoping to visit Deauville this Fall. What hotel would you suggest that is nice but not too expensive. Thank you, love learning so much from you
ReplyDeleteI usually stay in Trouville - a short walk or boat ride away. Nothing is inexpensive in Deauville that I know of these days.
DeleteThank you Carol, could you share the name of some of the places you stayed at?
DeleteI think Le Central is very nice and well-located near the beach. Their restaurant is excellent too.
