Yesterday I was headed to the races 🐎
And ended up at la plage 🏖️ beach.
Eugene Boudin just opened at musee Marmottan in the 16th. Buses 🚍 32 & 70 will drop you almost on the doorstep.
Eugène Boudin (1824 - 1898) first worked in a stationary and framing shop in Le Havre, but painting was his passion.
For going outside to paint en pleine aire.
Their dark, dreary ateliers behind.
Boudin had a summer place in Trouville-sur-mer, so naturally
The Boudin exhibit is not just sunny beaches on the Normandy coast. There are plenty of Boudin’s famous clouds ☁️ and cows 🐄
Even Venice appears briefly. It’s definitely a delightful exhibit to take in after seeing Hockney.
I must go to the races today to doodle ✍️
If you enjoyed this post you can support it by buying Paris letters and watercolors.
Or pass this on to a friend.
A girl on the Metro was wearing Boudin lace-up booties!
Thank you for telling us about this exhibit, wish I could go! I really enjoy Boudin.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the Boudin exhibit would be so wonderful as I love the impressionist painters. Monet is a favorite so his connection to Boudin is lovely. They both captured Trouville beautifully. I always enjoy your giving us some history behind the painters/paintings. Merci Carol. -Suzanne P.
ReplyDeleteAhh…this exhibit looks like the next-best-thing to going to the beach! Love your Trouville-sur-Mer cabana watercolors. I have several of them from your Etsy site…they bring a touch of ‘beach’ all year round. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI wouldn love to be at the beach 🏖️ right now !
DeleteLove that museum and that it's in a residential neighborhood. Boudin has always been a fave of mine--in college (50+ years ago in France, I used to say I just want a little Boudin for my wall in one of those elaborate gold frames)--alas, it's a dream but I have been to his house and little museum in Honfleur. I so appreciate this post--oh my goodness, les bottes dans le metro--Merci!
ReplyDeleteThat part of the 16eme is very old Paris
DeleteBoudin’s works are beautiful! I’d love to see the exhibit, but won’t be able to make the trip from here in CA. His name, though, conjures up thoughts of the delicious Boudin Bakery sourdough bread here in SF! That’s something that I can enjoy! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBoudin is a well-kept secret.
DeleteOh, Carol, I LOVE Boudin, thank you for visiting this most wonderful exhibit and sharing! Best, Miss Carla

DeleteYes, Boudin a bit dark. Some years ago I went on the Road Scholar (maybe then Elderhostel) trip, "The Impressionists", and we went up to Honfleur and saw Boudin's paintings in a small museum. I just recall a lot of darkness. He was moving out of the past into the daylight brightness.
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS!!!! Thanks!!!
What a delightful post!! Wonderful pictures and Boudin needs more attention! Many thanks for a truly entertaining and instructive trip to France🇫🇷🇫🇷♥️♥️
