David Hockney at Fondation Louis Vuitton, Société d’Équitation de Paris

Yesterday I thought I was headed to 🐎the races but I ended up at  DAVID HOCKNEY 25 at FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON. Go figure. Instead I hopped back on the bus, went 1 stop, & a nice walk through the woods. You can still get lost in Paris after 12 years.

Even the ticket is a keeper.

The show focuses on Hockney’s last 25 years.
Living in Yorkshire & Normandy.
It is huge.
Hockney is a master of color,
Especially GREEN 🥬 with it’s compliment RED 🍅
Which I am currently struggling with 🥊
A case full of large watercolor landscapes are downstairs.
Wear red when you go up a flight
To see the portraits
And flower still lives
So simple, so bold.
Intermittently there are pictures of Hockney at work.
I was pleased to see he works on a waterproof red checked tablecloth like I have.
Hockney sketches ✏️ out everything ahead in an accordion Moleskine sketchbook.
Hockney quoting Picasso said,”give me a museum and I’ll fill it”.
The Hockney is a beautiful show well worth the struggle to get there. Alert - their own shuttle 🚌 (which you pay for. It used to be free) is a Very bumpy ride. I recommend taking Metro #1  to Sablons. Then walk 14+ minutes rather than having your guts unravel on that jitney thing. Really M. Arnaud 😬
I mentioned walking through the woods 🌳
There is a riding 🐎 stable on the way. HURRAY
Artists 🎨 are allowed at Société d’Équitation de Paris 👏
Darling JACK on the right wanted to get friendly with me…
Next time JACK, I promise ❤️
Meanwhile Parisians were lapping up the good weather 🌞

  4. Hockney is really astonishing when you see his work in person, isn't it! There was an exhibition a few years ago at the Royal Academy in London, and I was absolutely blown away by it!

Yes I was enthralled and tended to focus on his landscapes more than other subjects…

I am so envious! If that show were here in Boston, Mass., you wouldn't be able to get near it, it would be so crowded.

  8. That exhibit looks marvelous and doesn't look too crowded. How fun for you to find horses along the way - better (or more personal) than the races.

Some rooms were more crowded than others - why my shots are a bit off Suki, but it was not intolerable.

A bar near my house in Atlanta,Ga. posts a joke each week on its outdoor sign.
This week the sign reads "Do race horses slow up when they see police horses?" Seems appropriate for your latest adventures!

  15. Carol,

I love that you provide the bus routes and that you are able to sniff out horses in the general area on your outings. Can you tell me about the pen David Hockney is using in the image where he appears to be drawing lines of grass that seem to fade to a lighter color? I don’t see a pot in ink, but the tip has a lot of green at the ‘nib’ end and the fade in color suggests he is running out of ink. Are these hand made?

    Great post as always. Thanks.
