New Year’s Day in Paris

THANK YOU Everyone for all your kind wishes, encouragement, support and comments you've shared with me this year. Bear 🐻 and I send you a ton of Love ❤️ & good health to all.
On New year's day Parisians go walking, no matter what the weather - it is chilly and overcast. 43 F. (feels like 34)

They don't dress up. Just the usual uniform of toute en noir/black head to toe.
Gulls on my bridge Sully watched with amusement, hoping for a breadcrumb or two.
Cafe Saint Régis is jammed today
Parisians eat shellfish over the holidays. Loaded plateaux of oysters 🦪 & crabs 🦀 spill out of restaurants to entice you inside.
Monoprix's poissonierie has their annual special plateau de mer (just 15€!) you won't find it except during the holidays. Enough for two people, but I had no problem polishing it off New year's day.
Yesterday I got a tempting Alsacian Flammkuchen for a change.
Pretty good
But not like in Colmar
Next Saturday is the annual charity Galette de rois fete. I hope    to grab a small bite of the giant galette. The pastry chefs👨‍🍳 wolf down Champagne 🥂 and pâte.
They were giving out a hearty French country vegetable soup called garbure. It’s always cold 🥶 Brrrr
Street corners along boulevard Saint Germain are piled high with empty champagne 🍾 bottles.
Inspiration enough to get out the Hooker's green watercolor and start painting bottles again. You can find your favorite brand of champers 🍾 on Etsy - Veuve, Mumm, Taittinger.
Thanks for reading and sharing Parisbreakfast.
Have an ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS 2025 PBers!
Parisbreakfast letters, maps and watercolors are in my Etsy shop. With love 💋 from Paris 🐻🥂🍾

I love posts like this. I was in Paris a few years ago just after Xmas & New Year's and had fun looking at the aftermath--the empty bottles as you show them, and most remarkable to me were the large piles of Christmas trees out for recycling in the little Arenes de Lutece near where I stayed.

How lovely…you had shellfish for your New Years Day meal! Yum! And, that flammkuchen looks divine also! Holidays are all about the food, and nowhere is that more evident than in Paris. Lucky you. Happy New Year to you & Bear. ❤️

Carol, before I tell you how much I love your posts I must thank you for the beautiful water color you painted for me. It was my husband’s favorite, belated Christmas gift. As I mentioned, I enjoy your posts, the illustrations and information. It helps me plan what to do each time I visit Paris. Your paintings of Paris life are so much fun!

That last comment was from Rose. Bob especially liked the painting because it was created by you, my watercolor teacher.

I have subscribed to your letter for a few years now. So enjoy seeing all the events you attend. I especially love the travel journal exhibit! Would so love to have the talent to draw from my travels. I'm headed to Paris on President's week. February!! I was wondering if you know of any shows/exhibits happening that week. Feb 15-23. I'm bringing my sister for her first Paris experience. So excited!! Jan

Another great post! Nice watercolor of the renovated Notre Dame! Btw is "buy me a Ko-fi" gone? I have looked for it 2-3 times to no avail. In any case, Happy New Year/Bonne Annee!
