Yesterday I was moaning to Bonnie, “It’s raining 🌂 out and I have to go to the Copy Shop, La Poste and the bank 🤷♀️
Same ole, same ole”.
But it wasn’t. On the way to la Poste I ended up at The Red Cross thrift shop…it was open for once ! 🤸♂️
Across the street I discovered a shop I’ve overlooked for years evidently at 23 rue Francois Miron, 75004
Pâtisserie Au Petit Versailles du Marais on the corner.
So many bright, shiny things non?
I flirted heavily with their Bonhommes de Noël…but franchement they looked on the pale side to me…not enough ginger perhaps 🤔
One does not forget these things in the eternal search for gingerbread in Paris…not pain d’épice, which is heavy on honey and light on the ginger.
Still on my way to la Poste, I did a quick browse in Manon patisserie. The French love ❤️ this traditional pear cake/tarte poires-amande/tarte Bourdeloue in Winter time. I’m sure Jill has a recipe 👍
Your posts always make me smile! Merci
ReplyDeleteAh ha! Mission accomplished ✔️
DeleteLots of lovely serendipity in your walk to the P.O. Today your exquisite watercolors I purchased on Etsy for my granddaughter’s 21st birthday arrived. She will love them, I’m sure! She has a March birthday, so I have time to get them framed! Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talents with us.
DeleteWell! That’s the fabulous thing about Paris, non? Temptations everywhere! Only you could make a trip to the PO a treasure hunt, C! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteIt IS treasure hunt…if your 👁️ are open
Delete🥰🐻
Love the varied shiny sparkly treats along the way to La poste!! (they're only bright & shiny if one is LOOKING!!) Sketchbook Wandering
ReplyDeleteToo bad those pastry stamps are for domestic use only. I know the great lengths you go to to make your envelopes extra special for your subscribers. There’s always such fun stuff in your envelopes!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I can incorporate them in letter art 🤔
DeleteOui! I would buy the carnet of patisserie stamps and put some in a frame! Why not make some postage art, Carol! Just put your art in the zigzag frames! In the papercraft field that has really been trendy! BTW I was eating a Bonhomme de Noël as I was reading your emission! I love gingerbread and last year my hand-crafted cards (to my french language friends) had a cat drinking hot chocolate with the words, Chocolat chaud et Pain d'épice! I didn't realize that in France Pain d'épice was different from gingerbread? Merci for your wanderings and showing us bright and shiny while most of us have been experiencing grey and rain.
DeleteYes it’s honey based and soft.
DeleteNo luck with the ‘zigzag frames’ but the pastry 🥮 stamps idea sounds fun!! 🤸♂️
Zigzag frames was just my description of the tooth-edged part of postage stamps (you could draw it in).
DeleteSo much fun!!! Merci !
ReplyDeleteFun is the key to so many doors 🚪
DeleteSadly, my trips to the Post Office does not offer such delights. Always enjoy your travels and posts. Thank you for taking us along.

Carol, thank you for making me feel as if I were walking with you. Love the red checkered everything. Your work is devine. Bev Kjeldsen
ReplyDeleteThanks Bev 🥰
DeleteMerci! My New Year’s resolution will be to always follow the bright, shiny objects even if it means going out in the rain.
ReplyDeleteRain makes nice reflections
DeleteYour life is one BIG adventure- because you make it so.
ReplyDelete☺️ Things do happen to me…
DeleteIf I can get out the door 🚪
You mention the gingerbread cookies look pale, thinking perhaps there is not enough ginger. I make gingerbread cookies and I can tell you that ginger, as a pale gold spice, doesn’t affect the color. I make gingerbread cookies without molasses, which gives a nice dark color, but even my cookies are not as pale as these. They simply look underbaked, though also without molasses.
ReplyDeleteMOLASSES! That is what’s missing here.
DeleteNot a French thing…😢
IKEA sells gingerbread dough for baking, but I couldn’t trust myself not to eat it raw. They have good ginger cookies too 👍
Correct! It’s funny because I put a hunk of fresh ginger in my morning tea ☕️
DeleteI'm looking at your watercolor of the carousel right now. Lovely! And what a fun post!
ReplyDeleteWho needs Google when we have Carol’s street view! You have such an eye for the good stuff. Thanks for taking us on the Niffler tour! 😘🤗🇨🇦
ReplyDeleteI NEED Google! ❤️🥰

ReplyDeleteThose cider cups are adorable. 2025. Here we are!!!! AWA Catering
ReplyDeleteThe tiny cups are Italian so probably cappuccino?
DeleteYour cookie looks good. There are a lot of people out at night. It looks safer than here Lynne
ReplyDeleteI know zip about Phoenix but it is safer here at night in general.
DeleteThough I should say it was around 6 PM - a normally busy time
I do love a good thrift! That sounds like a productive trip!
ReplyDeleteYes Jeanie 🥰 especially when it’s unexpected 🤸♂️
DeleteOnly you could turn a task into a pleasure. The creative mind finds joy everywhere.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. We greet 2025 with apprehension, anticipation, and appreciation. Your notes from Paris are always appreciated as a virtual visit to a beloved city. Barbara S.
