Bright, Shiny Things

Yesterday I was moaning to Bonnie, “It’s raining 🌂 out and I have to go to the Copy Shop, La Poste and the bank 🤷‍♀️

Same ole, same ole”.

But it wasn’t. On the way to la Poste I ended up at The Red Cross thrift shop…it was open for once ! 🤸‍♂️
I got these 2 little cups + 2 pairs of men’s socks 🧦 (acrylic mélange) for a song 🎵
Across the street I discovered a shop I’ve overlooked for years evidently at 23 rue Francois Miron, 75004
With tempting brilliantly colored mohair scarves 🧣 & blankets from Spain 🇪🇸
A fine selection of Happy Cats/porte bonheur chat
Amongst other exotica from gawd knows where 🌏
Next door a Marie-Antoinette tea salon
With goodies from
Pâtisserie Au Petit Versailles du Marais on the corner.
I flirted heavily with their Bonhommes de Noël…but franchement they looked on the pale side to me…not enough ginger perhaps 🤔
Across the street at Kaviari Delikatessen
I found my Nirvana. They had these cookies 🍪 last year too.
One does not forget these things in the eternal search for gingerbread in Paris…not pain d’épice, which is heavy on honey and light on the ginger.
Still on my way to la Poste, I did a quick browse in Manon patisserie. The French love ❤️ this traditional pear cake/tarte poires-amande/tarte Bourdeloue in Winter time. I’m sure Jill has a recipe 👍
I finally reach la Poste to pickup my mystery package 📦
And they have a new carnet/booklet of classic French pastry stamps! You can not get away from temptation here. Of course they can only be used on ‘lettre verte’ (mail Inside France 🇫🇷). Useless on ‘International’ letters 🙄
Across the street on rue de Rivoli the carousel is busy.
Almost home 🏠 shiny bateaux mouches are having a busy night. It never rained. This is what happens PBers when you go out to the copy shop, the bank and la Poste 🥰 🐻 ❤️

Lots of lovely serendipity in your walk to the P.O. Today your exquisite watercolors I purchased on Etsy for my granddaughter’s 21st birthday arrived. She will love them, I’m sure! She has a March birthday, so I have time to get them framed! Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talents with us.

Too bad those pastry stamps are for domestic use only. I know the great lengths you go to to make your envelopes extra special for your subscribers. There’s always such fun stuff in your envelopes!

Oui! I would buy the carnet of patisserie stamps and put some in a frame! Why not make some postage art, Carol! Just put your art in the zigzag frames! In the papercraft field that has really been trendy! BTW I was eating a Bonhomme de Noël as I was reading your emission! I love gingerbread and last year my hand-crafted cards (to my french language friends) had a cat drinking hot chocolate with the words, Chocolat chaud et Pain d'épice! I didn't realize that in France Pain d'épice was different from gingerbread? Merci for your wanderings and showing us bright and shiny while most of us have been experiencing grey and rain.

Yes it’s honey based and soft.
No luck with the ‘zigzag frames’ but the pastry 🥮 stamps idea sounds fun!! 🤸‍♂️

Zigzag frames was just my description of the tooth-edged part of postage stamps (you could draw it in).

  10. You mention the gingerbread cookies look pale, thinking perhaps there is not enough ginger. I make gingerbread cookies and I can tell you that ginger, as a pale gold spice, doesn’t affect the color. I make gingerbread cookies without molasses, which gives a nice dark color, but even my cookies are not as pale as these. They simply look underbaked, though also without molasses.

MOLASSES! That is what’s missing here.
      Not a French thing…😢
IKEA sells gingerbread dough for baking, but I couldn’t trust myself not to eat it raw. They have good ginger cookies too 👍

Correct! It’s funny because I put a hunk of fresh ginger in my morning tea ☕️
