Think Blanche for La Rentrée

 

On Tuesday I did a little browsing for you at Merci in the Marais

WHITE is IN for Fall 🤔 for la RENTRÉE. Merci ‘immerses you in an entirely white universe.’

The white wrapped stool is an essential must-have accessory.
Or on your back.
Paris has not heard 👂 the rule, “No whites after Labor Day”
What about wearing your nightie out shopping? Pourquoi pas 🤷‍♀️ 
I’m mad for the white raggy dress that looks like it cost a fortune 
You can not go wrong with one of Merci’s colorful tote bags (25€) It will go with whatever you’re wearing. I was tempted but since I have 800 tote bags at home, I resisted.
I asked the salesperson if they still had the great salad bar downstairs. She said, “No, the chef went back to Mexico 🇲🇽” TMI so I ate next door. 
Maybe influenced by the decor…my Greek salad was mostly white Feta & cucumber cubes with a very tangy dressing. Maybe olive juice?
I tried to knock it off yesterday but missed the boat 🎯 My vinaigrette was not the same. So frustrating isn’t it? Trying to match a restaurant dish 😬
Tuesday afternoon I met up with watercolor artist Kerry from Brisbane at Le Flore en l’Ïle and had a ‘white’ dessert (Berthillon glace Vanille with hot chocolate 🍫 sauce) I will not be making this at home..Yum Yum 
Kerry was reluctant to take the Metro (like too many PBers) so I offered to escort her on Ligne 7. METRO ESCORT may become my new profession. Solli says I am a master at it (she only rides bikes 🚴 in Paris). 
Evidently running neck and neck with WHITE for Fall 
Is ALL-DENIM outfits. Isn’t this a FAB look…though maybe more Summery than Fallish. 
The denim ‘tuxedo’ look on Sabine Socol. Denim will always be a classic 👍
In Galeries Lafayette I saw a white dog as an accessory. Another classic?
The white bathrobe look is very last year…not a Parisienne peut-etre?
I saw a lovely all-white dessert (citron tarte merengue at Chez Meunier) inside Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, 
But absolutely no Palmiers! I did not succumb 🙏 It takes years of living in Paris to ‘just say NO’ 🙊 
We are getting very close to the Finish Line 🏃‍♂️ on the August Paris letter 💌 I have 1 day left to the month!! I thought I was finished this morning. And then decided on a re-do 🙄
La la la la la
FYI It’s raining  🌧️ in Paris today all-day.

      The green bowl helps but there was a nice astringency to the restaurant salad I was missing. A squeeze of lemon 🍋 perhaps?

    So glad you got to meet up with Kerry. As well as being a talented watercolorist, she is a delight to be around. I was lucky to get to spend time with her during a painting workshop in Normandy. And, as always, really enjoy reading your blog.

    Carol, that lemon meringue tarte looked so tempting. How about a Paris letter on lemon pies, lemon meringue tartes, lemon curd tartalettes and the like?
    Was it hard to be in Paris during summer Olympics? Btw, I love Berthillon ice cream. Every time I go to Paris, I take pistachio Ice cream from Berthillon and a "religieux' from Angelina in rue Rivoli. Hugs from rainy and warm Madrid.

    So fun when you take us shopping, Carol! Love my hot pink Merci bag…you can never have too many totes…they seem to wander off all on their own.

    Denim on denim has been called the Texas (or Canadian) Tuxedo.😉 That young woman wore it well. And white, even in winter, has been worn by Parisiennes since I’ve been traveling there. Seems they follow their own ‘rules’. Smart cookies!

    The first thing I thought when I saw the salads was that yours looked so much better and I see I'm in good company there. The meringue lemon tart looks splendiferous. Only 12 days and I will be back in Paris & cannot wait.

      I’m using very yummy green olives 🫒 stuffed with anchovies. I know their salad isn’t pretty but it was loaded with flavor 👍

    My "famous" vinaigrette ingredients. I use small bottle with a lid. White balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard, lemon juice (fresh if possible) little bit of honey and EVOO.

    How do they keep all the white clothes clean!? I try but don’t have much luck with a white tshirt, usually manage to spill something.
    I would also have the delicious sounding vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce.
    I’ve always caught the metro in Paris, since the first time I went, and that was on a school trip with my French teacher 🙂
