Are you a Downton Abbey addict too? Who is not enthralled?
Have you considered the three Downton sisters fit the classic sibling trio parfaitment?
Eldest daughter, Lady Mary, of whom much is expected, is bossy, a tad arrogant and the most privaledged of the three.
Middle daughter, Lady Edith is certainly neglected. Her parents have chosen her to look after them when they're old, but Edith has other ideas...ahem
Youngest daughter, Lady Sybil is wild, free and tempted to cavort with the household Socialist chauffeur, Branston - typically naughty. By the way, did you know the British version of DA is longer? You can watch the original uncut version on Amazon.
But on to other things like tea in London - I'll be there 3 days in March and much ground must be covered. I'm fond of Tea & Cake/London, though I waited till I got home to order it...silly me.
More than 70 tea salons in mouth-watering photos + vital info. I haven't been to Peggy Porschen's Parlour at 116 Ebury Street, Belgavia SW1. Have you?
I just finished cover artwork for Peggy's newest book, Boutique Baking, out in the Spring.
A few preparatory doodles.
My other favorite go-to guide for London is, Shop Image Graphics In London.
Design has to play a part where you go in London doesn't it?
Peyton and Byrne never disappoints for ultimate Englishness both visually and taste bud-wise.
Thank you PBer Karen for sending me a shot of menu art I did for Maison Blanc patisseries.
Do you long to immerse yourself in Downton Abbeyness? Just hang out in front of Fortnum and Mason's windows. Or better yet go inside and pretend to be a Duchess.
My fav go-to gouter/snack in London is eaten sitting on a bench not in a fancy tea salon. To-die-for Ottolenghi take-away lemon/passionfruit tarts...sigh
Art by ?
I wish I knew where I shot this picture in London, but very adorbs no?
Bon Weekend PBers!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this beautiful post, Carol!
ReplyDeleteLove all the images, but the shot with your menu art is so utterly delicious, I almost licked the screen.
A wonderful weekend to you and the whole PB Community!
Beautiful cover for the book. Only you could do it justice! (By the way, I also love the mouse and bunny having a party. I've always been partial to mice. Maybe that's why people think I'm strange.)
ReplyDeleteJolly good post, Carol.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your painted images.
You've got to be one of the
most talented friends I have.
Have a good weekend.
Downton abbey fans can also buy the DVD BEFORE the end of this season and the Christmas-themed episode is the Brit version.
ReplyDeleteLove you cover art! Just bought the Ottolengi cookbook and must try some dishes soon.
I have a small-but growing- addiction for tea cups. So of course I noticed those in the third to last photo. Exquisite!

In the British press the Downton Abbey sisters are known as Snooty, Pouty and Dowdy :))
ReplyDeleteLove your cover for the Peggy Porschen book.
Looking forward to some tea and cake scoffing when you get to London!
Star crossed love, broken hearts....who can resist another 'Bronte-like drama'. Downton Abbey rocks!
ReplyDeleteLove it Karen!
ReplyDeleteshould the order perhaps be:
Snooty (mary)

ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Downton Abbey is not on in Canada?
It originated in the UK/BBC
You can get a look perhaps here at PBS
It's on Netflix:) I will be trying to start with Season 1 soon:)Thanks! It could be on..we rarely watch TV.. Netflix..at night..movies.. If I am in the kitchen the food Network.. I can't sit in the day..So perhaps we have missed it!
ReplyDeleteThank you,,It sounds so good.
Bien sur, I am a Downton Abbey addict! I am so concerned about poor little Daisy. And, Hello, Boutique Baking ~ I'm already making room in my bookcase. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteOh your art is everything lovely and bright. If I ever write a book I would be over the moon for you to be the book cover artist(no fear here, because that's just me dreaming...no words to paper yet). And as for you in Paris and London again, without me as your OPC (official paint carrier) I am in fits that will only be relieved with your trip coverage on your blog (pretty please). And Downton Abbey and being enthralled....wherever "thralled" is I am in it. I and my oldest teenage daughter are like this trio watching DA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I3YNNI9bxQ
ReplyDeleteI love your doodles and the mouse and bunny tea party :)
ReplyDeleteI have yet to see the TV show, but your selection of photos gives me a good taste of it!
Have a great weekend!
I learn something new almost everytime I come here. I have never heard of Downton Abbey. Now I need to know..:)) and I LOVE your painting and the cover art is great too. Another fun post...
ReplyDeleteDownton is my only appointment TV... I love it. Lady Mary (aka Snooty) was on Letterman last night and really quite lovely. Looking forward to your UK trip in March. Great post as usual Carol. Thanks, ~Jen
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on that amazing cover, Carol. You'e a genius. Maison Blanc menu, too. What can I say? Bowled over.
ReplyDeletei don't watch TV much either, but I have friends who watch DA faithfully- don't call them when its on! Love the book cover & menu! having Hibiscus & rose hip tea while thawing out from carrying hot water to Goaties as it is mid20s here so their buckets were frozen!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful artwork, Carol. And I'm crediting you with perhaps curing me - your photos of yummies actually made me remember I have an appetite after being sick for a week. Wonder if chocolate or strawberry cake would be a good first meal?
ReplyDeleteHi Carol! My husband and I will be going to London in September this year. Do you have any tips about getting around in London and outside of London? ie: metro system, bus, walks, anything you think is very British? Also etiquette ... what to do, not to do from your experience. Thanks!
