Last day of the Salon. I’m posting this on site. Chickens 🐓 & cows 🐄 are clucking & mooing in the background. It’s a tape to put us in a farmy mood.
I planned to come yesterday…but I went to see the movie 🐈⬛ FLOW…instead. More to come.
Almost every region of France has its own particular breed of cattle (and cheeses 🧀, wines 🍷, apples 🍎). Unlike the US, which has exactly 2 cattle breeds (Carolyn told me).
French kids 👦 grow up knowing where their milk 🥛 cheeses 🧀 butter 🧈 and eggs 🥚 come from.
Animals are an integral part of the process.
A demo on DIY Beaufort cheese 🧀 making - one of the most delicious (and pricey cheeses) from the Savoie.
Is it worth visiting Salon de l’Agriculturenext year?
Absolutement oui! It’s not just families with kiddies 👶
It’s a chance to get back to nature, the earth, even dirt/terroir.
Which brings me to why you should see the beautiful animated film, FLOW, by Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis.
There are plenty of animals in this film (70 minutes) yet not one word of spoken dialogue. Animal noises - yes.
Hmm, I know from observation there are many different varieties of cattle just in VT. So I Googled…there are more than 60 varieties of cattle in the US. Phew! Would hate to run out of milk, ice cream, cheese, etc.
ReplyDeleteThank you for returning to the Salon d’Agriculture. It is truly a unique, one of a kind, gigantic, display of France’s prowess in agriculture. Not to be missed. Hope you enjoyed that yogurt.
Oh! Did Carolyn give me the wrong info??? Hmm..
DeleteI can relate…I mis-identified a purse in one of your posts. Whoops! 🫣
DeleteI agree with Bonnie. Perhaps your friend was joking.
DeleteYes your friend got it wrong. There always were more than two kinds of dairy cattle. Yes Big agro business is one thing, but for decades we have had a heritage agricultural movement, for example heritage breeds of animals, orchards, charcuterie etc etc. There is a cheese trail in northern New England! Margie
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was beef she was referring to…
DeleteI wish VT products came to New York the way they do in Paris in a big farm fair.
DeleteTell Carolyn that there are actually about 80 breeds of cattle in America. I live where dairy cows and beef cattle are a large part of our livelihood in Florida.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your blog and we try to visit Paris at least once a year, sometimes we make it twice! Yes, please 🙏for the Ukraine!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got your coconut sorbet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suki,
DeleteIt’s an annual event I look forward to 🍦
Three of my favorite things in the world …sheep (as you know),coconut ice cream and pastel de nata…and yes there are more than two breeds of cattle in the US. salon sounds right up my alley…hope to go someday.
ReplyDeleteAhh..the sheep 🐑
DeleteYou would love ❤️ it indeed Shirley
It must have been wonderful to see Flow on a big screen.
ReplyDeleteThe cat looks like our dear departed Diddy…I love when films like this are nominated
I need to see it again !
DeleteThere are lots of different breeds of cattle can be found in North America but none of them is native to this continent. All were originally brought (or hybridized) here from other places, mostly from Europe.
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing and I love your drawings of the experience. I must check out FLOW! So nice to come here and think about happy things for a bit and to remember how fortunate we are to be able to do that. ❤️always from 🇨🇦 joining you in 🙏for 🇺🇦
ReplyDeleteOh, and I forgot to mention our cat, Zuzu, also watched FLOW with us. She was watching very intensely through most of the film!
ReplyDeleteHow fun is that! 🐈⬛
DeleteThank you for recommending FLOW. We loved it! It was very moving in a way I can't even explain. It was so beautifully done and I will be rewatching it often.
ReplyDeleteYes FLOW is a deeply reflective experience ❤️
DeleteHi Carol, I live in Australia and love all your posts as they bring memories of my trips to France. I love your drawings- especially the 🐈⬛. I’m not impressed with the Aussie menu either and I have never seen kangaroo on a take-away menu here - ever!
