Mille & une orchidées 2025, Jardin des Plantes

Today is the inauguration of the annual Mille et Une Orchidées
Exhibition at Jardin des Plants.

Yesterday I was drawing ✍️ like mad at the preview

In the jungle 🌴

Of la Grande Serres.

Watch a short video of the delicious experience visiting it.

I kept stripping off my jacket, coat 🧥…wish I’d worn a bathing suit🩱

Ok, I’m exaggerating but what a nice change from the current 28 degrees outside. And surely the fastest route to the Maldives Islands without an airplane ✈️ I was loving ❤️ every moment of the steamy heat.

The 12th edition highlights the natural environments where orchids live, through the use of photography to capture orchids in 12 different places around the world 🌍

Usually the live plant is placed nearby, but Vanilla orchids bloom once a year.

And inconveniently not in February in time for the 1001 orchid exhibit. How dare they?

Are you an orchid grower, collector or just an admirer?
“FYI in France 🇫🇷 there are about 160 species of orchids, not even counting natural hybrids. All these orchids are protected, whether nationally or regionally. Overseas  More than 1000 species of orchids bloom on the tropical French islands. The vast majority of these species are called "epiphytes", that attach themselves to a tree!”

Or a jungle lover? You will love ❤️ Jardin des Plantes 🪴
It would have been nice if they served us coconut 🥥 sorbet instead of tea ☕️ & mini croissants 🥐
Plus a few parrots 🦜 flying to and fro for atmosphere.
Some very life-like Tarantulas 🕷️ could be added for a tropical 🌴 effect. Oh well…
The exhibit is on through March 10 and a don’t-miss if you are in Paris.

I love orchids…unfortunately I’ve had no luck cultivating them. Too cold at chez nous peut être?

Would love to see this exhibit, and enjoy the tropical ambiance, at Jardin des Plantes. Adore your sketches, Carol!

I was able to grow a few orchids about 25 years ago here in SoCal; the humidity varies so much now they would probably perish. It was fascinating watching the buds open. They almost seem to quiver. I love all the varieties and colors ..even the nicely done faux one in small planters when you know you may ruin real ones.

  6. I love orchids and presently have 5 plants, one of which is about to bloom for the 4th time. All the others are just leaves no reblooming though I treat them all the same.

Maybe subconsciously you speak more to the healthy orchid Suki 🤔
They can be very sensitive creatures 🪴
