Louvre, Olympism - Modern Invention, Ancient Legacy

The Louvre facade on Rue de Rivoli
Unknown5:25 PM
A wonderful post, as are ALL of yours!! I especially love your photos taken at art exhibitions! I feel as though I am there. In the Olympic spirit, would you consider a post devoted to the Olympism show at the Louvre?
I said sure and got on the #7 headed to the Louvre (open till 9 pm Friday nights). FYI during the Olympics everyone must have designated time slot. Staff are helpful navigating the process.
Greek Sculpture of the Discus thrower at the Louvre
Naturalement I brought along the Olympics Letter to check athletic poses for accuracy.

Sketches of discus thrower bears etc.
Malheureusement, the discus thrower did not make the cut to the final letter art. These things happen 🤷‍♀️
Greek bust of Homer at the Louvre
Bear 🐻 didn’t mind. Too busy admiring a bust of Homer (not H.Simpson).
Ancient Greek amphora with racing athletes
And the many clay amphora 🏺
Old Louvre display of Greek pots
Look at the jumbled state how these objects were once displayed at the Louvre! Quelle horreur 😱
Photo of French Olympics prize winners
Evidently the Louvre had something to do with the first Olympics held in France in 1894. And again in 1924.
Composite of 4 Olympic photos
I can’t say this is an absolute must-see exhibit…
Main hallway in the Louvre
But experiencing the space in the Louvre
Louvre visitors taking pictures by the pyramid
Is always illuminating in one way or another.
Louvre gift shop bags and waterbottles
The Louvre gift shop has plenty of essential Grecian items you could bring home.
Pot holders of Mona Lisa
They do not have these Mona Lisa potholders, found  at  .
Blue Olympic teddy bear
Bü also had a cute French blue Olympic bear 🐻 (24,99€) Uh oh.
Louvre art bookstore
The big art bookstore at the Louvre up the escalator is excellent and often missed.
Ook table with new Paris catalogs
Their Paris exposition table has all the current exhibit catalogs - a sneak preview of what’s going on in Paris - an easy way to decide what to do & see while in Paris.
Window view of one of the Louvre’s gift shops
The other shop has fun, useless things to bring home, like arty chocolate 🍫 bars etc.
Fauchon shop at the Louvre
We were happy to see the new popup Fauchon shop.
They threw us out at 9 pm. Fortunately there were no ice cream 🍦 places open.
Have you been to Friday nights at the Louvre? Not as crowded as daytime visits in my opinion. We crossed Rue de Rivoli
My cat design on socks
And were thrilled to find again our artwork selling for a song 🎵 (6€)
Cat socks
This time we bought the socks 🧦
6 Paris letters on Etsy
You can own the Paris letter. good for all seasons.
What Paris exhibit should we 🐻 see next? Your wish is our command 🙏

Hmm, I’m looking forward to seeing what you’re up to for le 14 juillet, la fête nationale…dancing with le pompiers? singing la Marseillais? watching les feu d’artifice from your rooftop aerie?? Green with envy! 🇫🇷

OMG You are right! I have never checked the Louvre online store, and they have numerous things featuring the three Greek Olympiad runners from the Panathenaic amphora! And many other goodies, too. Thanks!
