OK, forget everything we've been chatting about of late...
Today we're going to make couchon cochon/pigs of ourselves.
At L'avant-comptoir3 Carrefour de l'Odeon
75006 Paris
Metro Odeon.
Open 12h - 23h.
Their specialty is (or it was when I visited last October) crepes.
I ordered La Crepe du Jour - a combo of smoked duck turkey, artichoke, marinated tomatoes, fromage Emantal and rocket.

It's always a good idea to order the special of the day.
Thanks dear PBers for correcting my French! First the pour of the batter... Wait for the edges to get lacy.
FYI-I'm standing in the street looking in, enhaling and waiting...
Next throw on the cheese...Quite a lot of cheese... Then on go the duck or dinde et les tomats.L'artichaut a la prochaine.
Enfin le rocquette.
And devour!
Munch Munch
Chomp Chomp
Miam miam
The day I was there, the chef Yves Camdeborde had closed off the interior and was having a private tasting party. The latest news is L'avant-comptoir has turned into a tapas-wine bar. What? No more crepes!
Does anyone know if this is so?
BONJOUR L'avant-comptoir!

  1. Bonjour, Carol:
I love L'avant-comptoir--it's just a few blocks from my hotel and across the
street from my favorite early evening watering hole: Les Editeurs--a perfect place
to grab a terrace table and watch the Parisian world go by.
    Oh, regarding the crepe,
I believe dinde is turkey, not duck--but I could be wrong. ;-)

  2. Katherine7:49 AM

I believe that "dinde" is turkey and duck is canard.
The crepe looks good either way . .

  3. COCHON not couchon:-)

  4. MERCI BEAUCOUP for your corrections of my wretched written so-called French!
I am a bit dyslexic bla bla bla...ahem

  5. Susanne9:51 AM

I've never heard of such a wonderful crepe combination before! miam-miam and thanks for the PB.
You've probably been alerted already by hungry readers that dinde is actually turkey... well, it's that time of year!

  6. As I was eating my yogurt for breakfast this morning I thought of being in Paris two years ago this week, eating hazelnut croissants with absolutely no regard for my hips………..
    This will do nicely too..

  7. What a great place -- the crepe looked delicious!

  8. Your blog is my new addiction! Thank you thank you <3

  9. Yves did in fact open it as an hors d'oeuvres bar (he winces at the word tapas) and breathe beep, the fab crepes are still sold to go out of the window. I'm there so often he said he was putting a "Wendy's hours are 6-8" in the door... not sure that is a good thing or not! I live in the neighbourhood, it'd be great to share some snacks and glass of Morgon with you. Love your posts... Wen

  10. Great series, Carol - I wish I had some of that pizza :)

  11. Oh, now you're talking MY kind of food, Carol! I make delicious crepes--savory and dessert crepes. I love 'em. God, I'd love one on this dreary, wet day here in TN tonight...

  12. I see that you have already got the answers to your questions!

    "Fromage Emmental"! :-)

  13. Wendy Lyn how do I find you?
    I guess at L'avant a 6 - 8
    Very funny :)

PB - it looked so delicious I decided to make them for dinner - Picked up mesquite smoked turkey, marinated artichokes and tomatoes, emmenthal and an herb salad, made my crepes - absolutely wonderful and so quick and easy! Merci beaucoup! Cindy in Columbus

  15. Hi Carol,

I love crepes and your photos make my mouth water.

When I returned home after Thanksgiving my bon bon Laduree pup water color was in my mail, now it's at the frame shop. I love it!

Merci bien- j'ai de la chance;-)

  16. Yow! That sandwich has to be the single biggest food serving French you've ever photographed!

  17. I went to a Christmas shopping night last night and the local baker was making these in the shop window but it just wasn't the same as Paris :(

  18. This crepe is something!! Sounds like pizza! This post made me seriously hungry!! yammy!! xx
PS: Carol, at this moment I am just wainting my macarons to be done (they are in the oven)...

Love hearing from you
