Ballet shines especially during the holidays. Key chaine from the boutique of l’Opera National de Paris.
I kept wondering if some Paris store would feature ballet, dance or Opera Garnier for their Christmas windows.
Samaritaine has done it 👏👏👏Hooray! 🩰🤸🏾♀️
Admittedly I like my advent calendar better-more bears 🐻 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻
Spotted on some floors - the occasional authentic ballerina costume. This one designed by the fabulous Christian Lacroix for George Balanchine’s Joyaux at l’Opera National de Paris.
On the weekends real dancers will be performing instore.
What does any respectable ballerina wear when she’s not pirouetting on stage? A rag-a-muffin ripped 100% all-cashmere outfit by Kujten. Ballet costumes by designer Rick Owens (2019) for l’Opera National
Lovely matted ballet photos. Or send a gift Ballet letter 💌 for aspiring dancers 🩰
For the ultimate christmasy feeling, sapin/pine 🌲 scented candles/bougies from Diptyque.
Speaking of piney scents, I can’t figure out why French Christmas trees don’t smell like trees in New York? They have no scent at all?! In New York you could never walk by a bunch of trees on the pavement without wanting to drag one home. ’Ah the smell of it’. Here nuttin’. Sure, they are different species but what fun is that? If you know please tell🙏🌲What does the Samaritaine shopper wear? Something red.
I went to Ernest instore for a big delish croque monsieur instead. Forget the so-called MIA cauliflower soup.
Outside it was dusk on le Pont Neuf. A Parisian waltzes right by a ballet poster in the Metro. She is not a balletomane
I only saw the videos in the windows. Will go back to see the live dancers this weekend! Cindy Null
ReplyDeleteI know…I think they should have dancers performing all the time. Honestly…
DeleteLovely ballet ornaments at La Samaritaine. The pics and explanations are so vivid, I feel being there, strolling París with you. Merci, Carol for making me feel there. Bon weekend !
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful store. Dear Pere Noel, I would like the charm bracelet & the advent calendar full of cosmetic goodies. P.S. I have been a very good girl! Merci 🗼❤️🎅
ReplyDelete😊 I think you can order online…not sure
DeleteI love today’s email, and was wondering if you could share where one could purchase those lovely keychains? Maria
ReplyDeleteYes I can! It’s in the boutique at l’Opera National de Paris!
DeleteBut do they ship? Qui sait…

three 3..things I truly adore...PARIS, BALLET, CAROL G. THANK YOU FOR THE HUGE TREAT. WISH I WERE THERE...BALTIMORE WILL HAVE TO DO FOR THIS NOEL. MARGOT
ReplyDeleteC'est beau! I would pick the Croque-Monsieur too!!
ReplyDeleteI don’t usually indulge in all that cheesiness but the cold weather makes one want melted cheese. Missing was the tomate soupe..
DeleteVery interesting about the Christmas tree fragrances (or lack thereof.) How beautiful this all is. Clearly, Parisians do Christmas very well indeed!
ReplyDeleteWhat are the Christmas Tree Types in France? - French Moments

You must have come across some spruces. Keep a nose out for the others!
Merry Christmas Carol, and stay warm! Sue
Ah ha…a failure to produce Spruce? cg
DeleteMore info:
DeleteSpruce - 28% of total sales in France.
The needles of the spruce fir are rectangular unlike the fir tree which has flat needles. The needle retention is poor unless the tree is cut fresh and kept regularly watered. The tree offers a strong pine odour particularly appreciated at Christmas.
Nordmann - 67% of total sales in France (sold near me)
The Nordmann fir is one of the most important types grown for Christmas trees as its soft needles have an excellent retention unlike the spruce. ***However it is not particularly odorant***
The noble fir is known for its beauty. The fir tree has a long keep ability, and its branches are made up of soft needles with good retention. This means there is no need to spend much time in cleaning needles off the floor. Unlike the Nordmann fir, it spreads the homes with a great pine fragrance.
Voila
Samaritaine did a very good job with their Christmas theme - ballet and Christmas go so well together. Beautiful post that I will return to daily to get my Paris Christmas fix. Thanks, Carol. Is Bear enjoying the decorations?
ReplyDeleteHow nice of you to say Suki. Yes Samaritaine is very elegant bling. Bear is keeping the home fires burning 🔥 if only
DeleteBeautiful post, Carol. Samaritaine is sure to put any Scrooge in the holiday spirit. Absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense that the French go for “needle retention” rather than scent for their trees…they nail them to a hunk of wood, rather than putting them in tree stands that have water reservoirs like we do in the US.
Thanks for such a festive post…love all the ballet stuff. ❤️
I know…but their trees do NOT FALL OVER. This seems to be important!?
DeleteThis is all so lovely - thank you for a delightful glimpse of Christmas in Paris! Hate to be a party pooper but a lot of American Christmas trees are heavily sprayed with pine scent.
ReplyDeleteOh I had no idea about the Spruce tree spray scent! Where san I buy this?? Target…?
DeleteLove the ballet theme Christmas decorations! Thanks for sharing. However I think my favourite is the Opera Garnier key chain….might need to look that up online.
ReplyDeleteI think you should follow this up with a trip to the ballet! I went when I was in Paris on New Year’s Day 2019. There was a big sold out spectacular showcase on New Year’s Eve but still tickets for the other show. 🙂🩰🎶
Kirra I have absolutely been dreaming of this…maybe I will get up there today…🩰🩰🩰🩰
