I Wednesday night I met up with some friends of Parisbreakfast
For dinner ๐ฝ️ at Bouillon Julien.
At 16 rue Faubourg Saint-Denis in the 10th arrondissement.
The decor is in the Nancy School of Art Nouveau.
Prices on the menu seem not to have changed since I was here in 2020!
Bouillons began outside marchรฉs like Les Halles.
Ladies, cooking on the spot and serving up ample bowls ๐ฅฃ of hot soup made from leftover vegetables & butcher bones from the market.
Julien is one of the few bouillons still serving this authentic, hearty beef bouillon soup (9,90)
Bouillons have had a resurgence of late. Pigalle is the newest. What’s not to love ❤️ Hearty, ample food at reasonable prices in stunning decor. I even created a Paris Bouillon Map.
I was wrong. It was tender and delicious. I ate their leftovers for breakfast in a sandwich ๐ฅช next day!
I just got home from Sunday lunch at Art Nouveau Brasserie MOLLARD, a more upscale bouillon across from Gare Saint-Lazare.
Chocolatier Queen Shannon ordered us a dreamy dessert -
Omelette Norwegian (AKA Baked Alaska)Woo woo ๐ฅณ
Doused with Armagnac & set aflame ๐ฅ
Have I sold you on trying a bouillon next time in Paris?
The tree ๐at Galeries Lafayette was the cherry ๐ on top.

The steak and frites look yummola!
ReplyDeleteWe had a great time…so glad you could join us! My sausage , mashed potatoes, and coarse mustard sauce was so good. I would recommend to your readers.

DeleteI was blown away by the beauty of Julien when we were there in 2019. We went to the gorgeous Bouillon Racine for Valentine’s Day this year and had a lovely dinner. Have you been? The prices are a bit higher than Julien but the food was excellent.
ReplyDeleteLOVE Racine too…more date night than the others - romantique ❤️
DeleteThat is going back in time. I am amazed their prices haven’t changed in five years. The soup looks so delicious and a deep flavor. Lynne
ReplyDeleteOh, I missed your map. Of course you’ve been to Racine! Thank you for that perfect Paris letter. I want to try all the bouillons!
ReplyDeleteRacine is lovely…more upscale €€€€
DeleteThat's quite a lot of Sauerkraut for a French restaurant. Love it!
ReplyDeleteChoucroute garni is a Classic brasserie dish. I love it with fish best.
DeleteBeautiful bouillon, Carol. All of your meals look delicious…and they’re generous portions! I can’t think of anything better than a steak sandwich for breakfast. Your bouillon map is delightful! ❤️
ReplyDeleteThanks Bonnie. Such a simple concept and it all works well.
DeleteI’m so happy to see Julien has kept on track. We used to go in the ‘ 60’s when you could drive there and even park. Does the waiter still tally up the bill on the paper table »cloth » ? Soooo beautiful !
ReplyDeleteJulia
They still write ✍️ the orders on the paper table cloth at CHARTIER Julia.
DeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWe always like to try one Bouillon every trip - they can be fun.
ReplyDeleteSmart idea Suki ๐
DeleteCarol, this was great to see. I am certain I ate at Julien many moons ago. Merci, Louise
ReplyDeleteThis spot is fabulous in Paris. I go there every time I go to Paris. However it is rather touristique, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI thought there was a good mix of young and old, both French and others. Franchement I have no aversion to a restaurant where there are tourists, though I will NEVER go to MacDo. Paris is a big tourist town ๐คท๐ป♀️
DeleteYup, you’ve sold me on bouillons. Next time…
ReplyDeleteThis all looks tasty and the prices are impressive too, plus the beautiful restaurant! I made a baked Alaska once for my birthday, put the oven gloves on before lighting the alcohol on fire!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you Kirra ๐๐๐
DeleteWho is Shannon the chocolate queen?

DeleteThank you for the link. Shannon’s chocolate retreats sound perfect in every way: food, accommodations, classes … The location is heavenly. Untouched beautiful county villages.
