Last Sunday I took a daytrip to my favorite places in France
A favorite train station of Monet, who took it to Giverny.
It is a short 2 hour trip at voila!
By the way, I picked up a Steve Rick’s guide to Normandy and he does NOT include Trouville-Deauville! Quelle surprise. Then again it is not over-crowded with foreign tourists (except moi)
I found the best strawberries 🍓 of my life. The Normandy producteur called them ‘Savorie’. They were almost crunchy on the outside and naturally so sweet. A good reason to return to Trouville.
The classic traditional navy & white striped marinier shirts worn both in Trouville and Deauville. It’s easy to pick one up while you’re there.
*The shirt's distinctive blue and white stripes were originally intended to make sailors more visible in the event that they fell overboard. In the early 20th century, the Breton stripes shirt was adopted by artists and intellectuals, including Pablo Picasso, who wore it as a symbol of his French identity.
I was headed, as always, to Brasserie Le Central.
For a my usual plateau de mer.
It’s a ritual lunch (38€) for me.
It took me an hour of hard labor…those crabs 🦀 are not very meaty.
OK, true confessions.
Sunday was opening day of the annual August horse races 🏇 at the Deauville Hippodrome! 🔔
I was curious what Deauville would be like, since I’m making the rounds of French race 🏇tracks.
After a couple hours I walked back to town (25 minutes of Art Nouveau houses and Normand cookies 🍪).
For a dinner of moule with cream, mushrooms, cider (21€) at Odyssée (Yum Yum) before my 7:23 train back to Paris.
Hi Carol...So envious. You know my favorite place also. Wish I could be there in the summer....much more festive than December. See any horses?

Delete👋 Hi Shirley! Enfin I got to Deauville. That is a long walk from town, but I loved every minute ❤️
DeleteAh…the horses 🐎 🏇 ❤️
DeleteMerci Carol 😻
ReplyDeleteI received your beautiful watercolor of the cup of cherries--they look good enough to eat! Thank you for the extras too--they will end up in my journal, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteYou’re very welcome Mary Lou ❤️
DeleteSuch talent! That beach scene is so sweet!! Is Saint Lezare the train station we sat in for an hour in the dark? How is bear by the way? Has he recovered from his reconstructive surgery? 😘from🇨🇦
DeleteBear 🐻 asks for you all the time Nicole! 🧵
DeleteYes the same Gare St. Lazare 👍
Love it! What a great day out. Thanks for the journey Carol! Jane
ReplyDeleteMaybe you’ll go to Trouville next trip Jane. It is a hidden delight to most non-French travelers 🤫
DeleteI have actually been there, but your food and activities inspire me to want to visit again.
DeleteWhat a fun day trip, Carol! You fit a lot of activities into one day! And, lots of yummy seafood. Love your watercolors. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI did more than I planned…no wonder I slept zzzz on the train home
DeleteSounds like a lovely day! Hope to visit these cities soon and will reference your ideas when planning my trip. Merci!! Well done.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing your photos of what people are wearing. I will finally return to Paris in September '26 after many years. I hope I won't see that they are wearing sneakers like Americans and so many I saw in Germany, Switzerland, Lima, and different parts of France this year. The difference between US and the sneakers I saw in Europe this year was that Euro sneakers had thick soles that are probably very practical on cobblestones. I'm just not a sneaker fan.
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE wears sneakers 👟 but so many designs! It’s unavoidable 🤷🏻♀️
DeleteLove your post but where’s the link to Etsy??😘
ReplyDelete"By the way, I picked up a Steve Rick’s guide to Normandy and he does NOT include Trouville-Deauville!"
ReplyDeleteAm I missing something? Do you mean Rick Steeves?
It is a well known fact I’m dyslexic. Can’t spell or count either 🤷🏻♀️
DeleteSometimes I get creative with names…flip flop.
What a wonderful day- love the seafood and the horses. You must have that umbrella.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suki ❤️ 🏇 🦀
DeleteI love this! Thank you so much for sharing a perfect day :-)
ReplyDeleteYou’re welcome ❤️ I am going back TODAY! In search of strawberries 🍓
DeleteOh, Carol, this was just SENSATIONAL!!! Thank you. CARLA
ReplyDeleteThis brings back fond memories when we went together and spent the night!! I want to go back!!
ReplyDeleteLet’s go Carolyn ❤️
DeleteWhat a fun day trip! Your lunch and dinner look good but the strawberries look amazing! Great you got to go to the races there too. I used to love the pony rides at the races when I was a kid, my dad liked the races and we loved admiring the horses in the circle and the stables too.
ReplyDeleteHow nice Kirra. Your expériences are like the French. In the US, the race track is not kid or family-friendly I don’t think. More geared to the male bettor is my guess. Maybe I am wrong…
DeleteGreat post! Seafood, sand, Art Nouveau houses, horses, strawberries and cookies - all of my favorites in one place. Those cookies are made by the Biscuiterie de l'Abbaye, a sweet little village in the Orne with an old Benedictine abbey. You should visit one day. The galettes au sarrasin are my favorites - not too sweet, and delicious with soft cheese like Brie on top!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brill idea to spread Camembert on top 👍
DeleteI've been once to Trouville/Deauville and it was such a treat! We stayed a couple of nights at a nice hotel in Trouville. Wonderful memories!
