Café de Flore Paris Letter

MIA! MIA! (Missing in action)

Remember breakfast at Café de Flore? This  one was a struggle 🙀
You wouldn’t think so, since I already painted 2 other Paris cafe breakfasts 😬
But so many elements to grapple with,
Like that egg 🥚 cup
Which I shot in the wrong perspective 🙄 Things like that drive me nutz. Drawing ✍️ perspective is not my forté.
Somehow I forgot how to paint spoons!? Practice, practice. Use it or lose it…even with drawing ✏️ spoons 🥄
Café de Flore’s logo took some practice ✍️ It’s on every scrap of china ☕️ 🫖 in the place.
Adding their iconic waiters
Seemed a good idea 👍
ON ETSY with small sketch included.
The August letter is going out immediately, Instantly!
Except for a wee interruption…I managed to find a ticket 🎫
To Trouville/Deauville 🤸‍♂️ I’ll keep you posted as my day goes.
First things first
A visit to the Poissonnierie for
Huitres 🦪 oysters for breakfast (17€) A shot of iron never hurts 👍
*Save the lemon 🍋 slices to cleanse your hands, instead of those horrid chemical packets. The brown, grainy bread ‘pain Nordique’ I brought at Feuillette boulangerie
Now I’m off to look for the strawberry 🍓 guy.
TA DA. HOORAY Found him in the marché Deauville
And I found his twin or bro is at the Trouville marché.
Nice veg.
Nice tea towels.
Nice matching at the marché.
Home-made sparking apple 🍎 juice looks so temping.
Grilled lobster !!🦞 (45€) just browsing, not eating
More browsing…

Should always eat breakfast, here in Philadelphia, before reading your yummy reports from Paris. Also your inspiration for drawing most helpful as I'm studio organizing this morning. Thanks for your charming newsletter!

  3. I love how you're enjoying breakfast and painting it then taking off on the train for oysters for lunch. You know how to live, Carol! ADORE also how you notice the shoes, echoing your fascinating life story... the matching dog top and sandals - had me in stitches! Enjoy your trip. Bon dimanche and hope to see you soon, Jill x

  6. You nailed the Cafe de Flore. Your practice paid off. Bravo. So glad you found more strawberries, but, my favorite from Trouville is the tea towels. Such a bright post.

I'm in love with those tea towels, too, Peggy! Did you notice a price - Carol? The slip-ons and striped dog shirt were fab! Thanks for catching the twin! You do perspective, great, Carol! Just not easy that day for the egg cup! You calligraphy for the Café is excellent! Fun day - glad you 'found' a ticket for the trip! We all benefited.

No, but I know they were not expensive. Only vintage are pricey.

Ooops. That was not MY grilled lobster 🦞 I was spying 🕵️‍♂️ as usual. I would prefer boiled lobster. I had moules as usual.
