This past week was ROSE WEEK 馃尮
Last Sunday I headed out to La Roseraie de Val-de-Marne to paint the roses 馃尮 Take ligne 7 to last stop, Villejuif-LouisAragon end of the line. Then bus 172 (in front) for 10+ minutes to Sous-Prefecteur Eglise etc. It was windy, cold and looked about to rain any second. I got back on the 7train & came home 馃彙
Have you ever seen towering rose 馃尮? Nice to have around in December馃巹 Did I say there are 2,900 varieties of roses 馃尮 and 11,000 rosebushes.
Basic facts: The rose garden is open early May to 1 September, 10.00 am - 7.00 pm every day. Peak flowering season is May -June. Admission is €4 per adult May to mid-July, and free thereafter. Best to go in May or early June.
Created in 1894 by Jules Gravereaux He later brought in famous landscape architect Edouard Andr茅 in 1899. The Roseraie du Val-de-Marne is the world's first dedicated rose garden. Gravereaux originally worked in Bon March茅 as head of the glove department. He worked his way up and became a major share holder. Plus he was left a nice chunk of change by the owner, Aristide Boucicaut.
Unfortunately dance 馃┌ performances in diaphanous garments is no longer encouraged at La Roseraie du Val-de-Marne.
Fortunately bringing a watercolor paintbox is allowed 馃憦 I had my own private arbor.
Fortunately I had a rose 馃尮 gel茅e tasting on Wednesday at Confiture Parisienne.
To keep me in a rosy 馃尮 frame of mind. yum Yum. Have you tried their jams? Perfect small gifts 馃巵 to bring back to friends.
Fortunately I got a haircut ✂️ before the tasting at 5 茅me Lieu…Wednesday morning. On Friday, more roses 馃尮
At Lanc么me’s new Cafe des Roses at 52 Champs Elys茅es
Featuring World best pastry chef, Nina M茅tayer’s,

DeleteLovely post! I am inspired as always, and you just helped me decide what my Blog this June will be about. My roses are over their prime at the moment, lots of heat and NO RAIN, but I took plenty of photos at the beginning of June. Merci

Thank you for introducing us to new places and happenings. I was amazed by the roses in Rodin’s garden. Love the new haircut!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder Dee Ann re:Rodin gardens - always spectacular 馃尮 CAROLG
DeleteRoses are the thing I miss the most from my garden. A new rose disease exists in the US white no known cure and it felled all except one valiant shrub rose. It may all be for the better as I no longer feel safe climbing on ladders to sort out and tie the canes up! No more scratched arms either! Still....I miss them. Jeanette Sclar
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear Jeanette. I think they are having similar problems also at La Roseraie. They gave out flyers on the bug.
DeleteI swear you continue to look younger all the time. The Cafe des Roses jut went on my list - I need some of those cookies.
ReplyDeleteThank you Suki 馃グ
DeleteIt all depends if I cleaned my face with Bioderma Creatine H2O the night before…
In your Etsy shop you have a “Paris Pink Peony” watercolor, $59. It says Gilllot in the lower left corner, what does it say in the lower right? Thanks
ReplyDeleteOooops it should be $49 - a technical error.
DeleteIt says Pivoines (French for peony)
