La Roseraie du Val-de-Marne, 3-Day 🌹Sale, Confiture Parisienne, Lancôme Cafe de la Rose

This past week was ROSE WEEK 🌹

Last Sunday I headed out to La Roseraie de Val-de-Marne to paint the roses 🌹 Take ligne 7 to last stop, Villejuif-LouisAragon end of the line. Then bus 172 (in front) for 10+ minutes to Sous-Prefecteur Eglise etc. It was windy, cold and looked about to rain any second. I got back on the 7train & came home 🏡

The next day, Monday, was relatively sunny🌞 *There is ALWAYS a chance of rain 🌧️ in Paris.

And made it to La Roseraie 🌹🤸‍♂️

Have you ever seen towering rose 🌹? Nice to have around in December🎄 Did I say there are 2,900 varieties of roses 🌹 and 11,000 rosebushes.

There are 13 gardens within the rose garden. 
Basic facts: The rose garden is open early May to 1 September,  10.00 am - 7.00 pm every day.  Peak flowering season is May -June.  Admission is €4 per adult May to mid-July, and free thereafter. Best to go in May or early June.

Created in 1894 by Jules Gravereaux He later brought in famous landscape architect Edouard André in 1899. The Roseraie du Val-de-Marne is the world's first dedicated rose garden. Gravereaux originally worked in Bon Marché as head of the glove department. He worked his way up and became a major share holder. Plus he was left a nice chunk of change by the owner, Aristide Boucicaut.

Unfortunately dance 🩰 performances in diaphanous garments is no longer encouraged at La Roseraie du Val-de-Marne.

               I went home to practice painting rose leafs 🍃

Fortunately I’d bought a bunch of pale pink roses at Sunday’s marché Bastille to practice on.

Fortunately I had a rose 🌹 gelée tasting on Wednesday at Confiture Parisienne.

Getting a haircut in a salon
Fortunately I got a haircut ✂️ before the tasting at 5 éme Lieu…Wednesday morning.

    The pink roses are lovely! I remember how lovely the roses were at Rodin museum. I love yellow peach roses. Your work is so lovely to see!

    The Roseraie looks lovely, Carol. So convenient to get to from Paris. Would make a great day trip for spring visitors.

    Roses are the thing I miss the most from my garden. A new rose disease exists in the US white no known cure and it felled all except one valiant shrub rose. It may all be for the better as I no longer feel safe climbing on ladders to sort out and tie the canes up! No more scratched arms either! Still....I miss them. Jeanette Sclar

    Thank you for painting my favorite flower the peony! I recently moved from house and I had several planted in the garden, but now live in a small condo and I have to buy them at the market. Now I will have my permanent peony!
