In tough times people go for escapism.
And some people go for Pierre Herme miniature desserts.
I usually paint just 1 or 2 desserts at a time at most.
So when I was contacted by the Brazilian magazine, PIAUI to do a dessert pastiche for their 2nd birthday issue, I was thrilled but terrorized :)
The last two weeks have been a deluge of desserts, including even trying to paint this napkin - that pony didn't ride. Here's a mini detail of the finished multi-dessert cover, which by the way came out fine. But what with the bank and market deluge my cover stands a very good chance of being back-burnered. C'est la vie. When I know for sure I'll show you the full monte.Dessert Pastiche, original watercolor, 5.5" x 7.5"

I've decided it's time to start painting more than just 1 or 2 desserts at a time. So I plunged in. I know you'll let me know what you think. Here's a snack while you're busy doing dessert analogy.

ReplyDeleteAnd second, I have cake today too. But just the photo.
I an itching to paint some more cakes myself... Must be the fall air.....
These look muchas beautimous !
I usually prefer frosting to cake. But, Paris cake is different than American cake and I think I will go ahead and have one or two.;-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations,Carol
ReplyDeleteI´m sure you´ll shock them with the result. You´re able to do it(I bet my shoes...and you know that´s a hard bet for me ;D).If yoú can knit a scarf...you can knit a jersey(I did it last year and the only thing I´d knitted were my looooong scarves)so you´re drawing all the cakes"ensemble" you´re wanting to.
Bon courage!!!
Oh my gosh. first off I could pick that first cupcake up and munch right into the middle of it...it looks so real. second off.. WOW. You are cookin' here. I hope your cover painting makes it. Looks wonderful from what we can see.
ReplyDeleteI think your paintings have taken on a richer depth from when you first started posting them. Not sure thats the wording I want but they have really grown.
Cutie, you can paint as many darned desserts as you like. I won't complain! Good luck with the magazine cover--that's excellent, Carol! Kudos! I hope they put it on the front burner again VERY soon. These are all delightful.
ReplyDeleteThese new paintings are wonderful. What the heck were you complaining to me about over the weekend? Bored? EXCUSSSEEE ME! I wish I was bored with those results......AHEM!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brush With Color...there's always next years birthday at PIAUI...
ReplyDeleteRICK I didn't show all of them :(
CRIS, you are too kind :)
ooh la la, mademoiselle... this is a wonderful collection today.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in the second picture.
ReplyDeleteoops. I actually meant the third picture... although all of them are nice.
ReplyDeleteSo many colors! I like it, it seems very cheerful! (or maybe I am just cheerful about the idea of having so much dessert in front of me...)
ReplyDeleteI was just going to ask you to scrape off the chocolate icing. But chestunut is a whole different story! Wonderful pleats in the paper.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to get to do a collage-like cover.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a collectible!
Sometimes I catch myself coming and going! Your post on Sue's blog today explains your love of miniatures!!! You've ALWAYS loved them! As for the desserts, the more the merrier! Naturally, this will mean more "research" but something tells me you're up to the task!
ReplyDeleteLove your dessert pictures. Though they do always make me run to the biscuit tin or as you call it the cookie tin
ReplyDeleteIs there chestnut-mousse hidden under Mont Blanc's snowy top? (It is in Italy.)
ReplyDeleteI like your assortment of pastries, they seem to stare at me, though! ;-)
