Shocking Life - Schiaparelli

 Shocking Pink, 9" x 11"

Sunday I went to see the Schiaparelli and Prada exhibit at the Met. It was the last day.

'Schiap's famous shoe hat. Don't you love the red lips pocket - so witty.

Elsa Schiaparelli (1890 - 1973) was one ot the leading designers of the 1920s and 1930s with a flair for the unusual. The first one to use shoulder pads, animal prints and the inventor of shocking pink. Schiaparelli collaborated with artists including jean Cocteau, Alberto Giacometti and Salvador Dali to create the Dali Lobsters dress.

I'll admit I'm biased. I much prefered Schaiparelli to Prada in the exhibit and didn't even give them a look.

"The more the body is respected, the better the dress acquires vitality...The Greeks...understood this rule, and gave to their goddesses...the serenity of perfection and the fabulous appearance of freedom".

All of Schiaparelli's quotes in the show are taken directly from her autobiography, Shocking Life, (which I'm currently reading) was published in 1954.

Schiap was famous for her fitted jackets influenced by uniforms and mens tailoring. "[I feel] that clothes [have] to be architectural: that the body must never be forgotten and it must be used as a frame is used in a building…

"Two words have always been banned from my(fashion) house -  the word 'creation', which strikes me as the height of pretentousness and the word 'impossible'. I kept in touch with the needs of women who had confidence in me and tried to help them find their type. This I believe to be the principal secret of being well dressed'.

"Waist up/Waist Down" looks at Schiaparelli's use of decorative detailing as a response to restaurant dressing in the heyday of 1930s café society.

"Types are vastly different. Women's looks should correspond to their way of life, to their occupation, to their loves, and also to their pockets".
Women designers are so much more practical aren't they?

I picked up Schiap's autobiography, Shocking Life at the Met exhibit. It's a terrific read detailing all the ups and downs of her exciting life as a tremendous creator and survivor of the highest order.

Amuzilo 34 rue Dauphine 75006

#161 Pierre Herme Ispahan pinkerie PINK PINK PINK.
It can't hurt?
Pictures from a stroll down rue Dauphine in the 6th arrondissement.  Full of pinkness like these giant pink meringues. Or a pink wedding cake. From Amuzilo, 34 rue Dauphine, a kid's toy shop with mostly pink things. Boys, go somewhere else! Pink twirling silliness.
Silly dogs in pink chapeau..
From the Salon du Chocolat, piles of pink nougat - framboise or fraise? Doesn't anyone need pink ink/l'encre rose?
YES!
For grownups on 26, rue Vavin in the 7th - Baby pink cashmeres from Eric Bompard - miam
Why can't grownups have bracelets like this?
Or pink purses like this?
All from Amuzilo, Jouets d'enfant au ♥ de Paris
Well at least we can have baby pink macaron.
Well we could if we're in Paris!
Hmmm..
BONNE JOURNEE !

So much 'pink' to taste. Herme even has miniature pink gateaux. Along with le monstre Ispahan.

Et bien sur les individuals.

This Ispahan verrine is toooo pretty!
Paris taught me to love roses. They're on almost every street corner. Merci au Nom de la Rose. Paris Breakfast at EtsyFrench Pink Tea, watercolor 9" x 11"
One visit I went wild and bought everything rose in sight. The In The Pink Report:
My MRI says I have quite a few herniated disks but,  no surgery required.
GRAND MERCI!
I am crazy for my new physical therapist - he gave me ultra-sound/accupressure/massage + heat yesterday.
I feel newborn.
I'm feeling much better thanks to all your kind words.

MRI Paris Pinks

As you slide onto the MRI table, you don't expect to see pink cherry blossoms overhead.
But no, they don't give you a pink paper hat to wear whilst inside getting zapped.
Nor do they wrap you in pink sheets(like French Girl sleeps in every night).
No decorative pink tassels (again c/o French Girl) hanging from the equipment, though it would certainement be an improvement.

It can get breezy inside an MRI, but they've forgotten to provide a pink scarf to wrap around you neck.

After you're finished and have survived the ordeal, no pink truck comes to pick you up malheureusement.

Nor are you assisted out of your surgical gown by aides in hot pink aprons - whyever not?

A post-MRI snack would be very welcome, especially in pink, but dream on.

Snacking under pink umbrellas wouldn't be remiss.

A hello from a rose in the Rodin museum garden - M.I.A.

French Rose Tea, watercolor, 9" x 11"
Instead I went home and tried to paint in bed this rose.
There are hazards to that activity - like spilling your jar of paint water over everything!
BONJOUR MRI PARIS PINKS!
Here's a tip for coping with an MRI - don't get much sleep the night before and you'll doze like a baby inside the blasted/blasting thing.
Well I did :)

Tendance Rose

Word out.
Paris is thinking PINK
Tendance rose/trend pink.
Forgetabout RED PBers!
The first indication that something was going on was this lush gateaux in Lenotres vitrine. I spotted it coming out of the Metro the minute I set foot dans le rue... Of course France is in love with the iPad.
And this has to be a French Girl.
Ballerinas - check
Mariniere striped shirt - check
Pink jeans?
What's up with that I'm thinking...
