This time including the work of two contemporary collage artists, 

Adventures in the Louvre by Elaine Sciolino, Couture Exhibit

 

I went to the Louvre on Wednesday to gather more research for Elaine Sciolino’s new book map for ‘Adventures in The Louvre’.

And to see the new Couture exhibit.

The Louvre is always closed on Tuesdays except for a vernissage/an opening

Printemps Louvre

I go into Le Louvre Apple store all the time.

 

Adjacent to Apple is the new Printemps Louvre branch open about 10 days

Fanciful harmless animals greet you at the door.

 

Maybe not so harmless..

 

The giant purse is perfect.

 

Wonder if you can sleep in it?

 

The pattern? Witty broken plastic chips. Trés plasticy.

 

A melting handbag. That's happened to me.

 

Bear inside my bag.

 

Happens all the time.

 

Fun animals everywhere.

 

And you can TAKE PICTURES! Are they thinking Louvre visitors are not going to put their iPhones/cameras away once they enter? Plenty of smiles all around from staff. Very nice.

 

Karl has cats onboard and Marc has catty iPhone covers.

 

There's even a mini park with bench to rest your Louvre-weary feet (instead of inside the Apple store). Can you bring your lunchbag too?

 

A classic Longchamps boutique is inside the store.

There are perfume and makeup boutiques too.  I didn't get up to the second floor.

You can depart le Louvre through the Richelieu wing and go out the portal that opens onto Palais Royal. *By the way you DO NOT NEED a ticket to enter this way (minus the crowds)...I was mistaken.

Louvre bookstore

More often than not when I visit the musee Louvre I avoid the lines.

And go instead to the Louvre bookstore under the pyramid.

It's never too crowded.

You can check out other exhibition in Paris - look at their catalogs.

I'm a book-aholic. I love bookstores. I'll never give them up and France hasn't either.

But I decided finally to give in and try a Kindle.

There will be books I won't be able to read on it.

Or maybe not?

At least I'll finally be able to read in bed not just on the subway.

Pestering Kindle readers on the subway and reading La Table de Nana's kindle post made up my mind.It is lighter than carrying a book around.

It might be nice to have some travel books in my bag in Paris,

Like Thirza Vallois' guide to the 1-6 arrondissements.

One thing you can't do with a Nook, iPad or Kindle is rest your teacup and macarons on it.

Il Fait Froid!

Pieplate said yesterday...We'll be in Paris in quinze jours, and we're hoping that the temperatures will be up a bit.

What's the weather report on the ground?

When you start learning French,

one of the first sentences you learn is,

"La plume de ma tante est sur la table..."

Well long ago it used to be so.

Then you learned how to say,

"Il fait beau" The weather is fine. This trip in Paris, il fait FROID! Il pluie! ! ! B E A U C O U P ! It also used to be that starving artists in Paris... (something I can't claim to be for sure) Would now and then throw themselves out the windows of their unheated garrets... (something I'm not about to do for sure!) But I surely wish I'd brought my long johns (if I had any...) La Louvre is nicely heated by the way.. Inside anyway... Mustn't grumble about Paris grey skies... After all I AM in Paris. Now repeat after me: "La plume de ma tante est sur la table."
