Parfum, Sculpture of the Invisible - Francis Kurkdjian

Yesterday I went to a special exhibition celebrating 30 years of
Perfume creation by Francis Kurkdjian

This capsule exhibit is only up for a month
Ending November 23, 2025.
You can get free tickets at the Kerkdjian website.
Each olfactory installations and scented object had an accompanying perfumed paper touche
You collect them in a folder given at the entrance.
Young Kurkdjian decided to become a perfumer at age 14 after seeing a Yves Montant film, LE SAUVAGE.
He went to perfume school, ISIPCA in Versailles,
And remains connected with
Chateau Versailles
on many perfume collaborations.
His first creation at age 24, LE MÂLE for Jean-Paul Gaultier is still one of the most popular perfumes for men.
He has sought ways to combine his sensory talents with all of the arts,
Creating special perfumes for exhibitions, like the 2010 Monet retrospective at Grand Palais.
Even dripping perfume directly on sheets of photographic paper to make vibrant patterns.
Combining scent with music 🎵
Is another obsession.
Collaborating with chef Anne Sophie Pic on divine saffron and passion fruit chocolates we tasted,
Before entering an enclosed space of sound, light and moving sculpture.
A facsimile of Kurkdjian’s working studio-office
Is a revelation
Of taste and secrets.
Seeing the books 📚 on his shelves.
Kurkdjian is perfume Creation Director at Dior, as well as running his own Maison.
He is particularly renown for his Baccarat Rouge 540,
Which hangs over his work station.
The fan-like thing on Kurkdjian’s desk are paper
blotting strips. A much better way than testing perfume directly on skin. What you see on every perfume counter in Paris. And the souvenirs I put inside ever Paris letter envelope.
This exhibit is a wonderful immersion into the art of perfume creation. If you are in Paris at the moment run 🏃‍♂️ to see 👁️ it 🙏

I only found out about it the day before, surfing YouTube. I was thrilled to get in. A well-kept secret.

What an amazing exhibit and I did not know the creator at all so you have helped me to now explore his fragrances. I would have been 'floating' around in this space with joy!

I love that white fan on his desk. Is it made of paper?

  10. How interesting! I haven’t heard of him but he’s obviously a big person in French perfume, doing so many different exploratory projects too. I’m impressed he decided when he was 14 he wanted to do perfume, that seems pretty young. Looks like a great exhibit experience!

I think unless you’re in the business, most perfume creators names are unknown, though Kurkdjian has his own eponymous Maison…an exception.
