Salon du Livre et de la Presse Jeunesse

“Happy 🦃 Thanksgiving ”, Brigitte, my bouquiniste said to me. I’d momentarily forgotten. When she lived in the states, the ex-pats would be invited to THREE Thanksgivings 🦃🦃🦃 in one day!

Yesterday I went to opening day of the annual children’s book 📚 fair in Montreuil and its FREE !
Boy, was that fun 🎉
Many, many school children in attendance
And
So many
Beautiful
Books 📚 to browse and buy.
Two floors of book 📕 publishers
It’s the 40th anniversary of the fair 🥳
I went 10 years ago and it was way smaller.
The fair is on through Monday morning and an easy trip on ligne 9 to Robespierre.
This time I went for homework…
I am illustrating ✍️ a children’s book 📕 for Messy Nessy Chic and I wanted to see what was out there. Very fun homework 📚
The night before I went to see la Comité de Faubourg Saint-Honoré turn on the Christmas lights.
And walk down the avenue with no cars 🚗
Quite a few penguins 🐧 were out..
Some were taking tea ☕️ at Prada
Some were dressed in the hot color - chocolate 🍫
At Chanel, some were wearing dishtowels.
The Chanel store looked very festivo.
As did Dior.
10 Holiday Paris letters are up on Etsy.
Have a 🎉 Festive day 🎉 out there dear PBers
 💌 sending kisses 💋 from 🥰 Paris 🐻

Books 📚 for kids are HUGE here.
The schools help by bringing the children to the fair.
At the big March Salon du Livre, all children enter free.

We all devoured our books 📕 as kids.
What else was there to devour? I was especially fond of Horror comics like TALES FROM THE CRYPT (original copies now worth a fortune).

Thanksgiving early morning looking for the Hazy Days of Winter to send my friend Lynne in LA who's grieving her breakup with a con man boyfriend who, at a distance, convinced her he was dying of cancer and needed a thousand dollars immediately for chemo. But that's not my point ! My point is: I stumbled on a Simon and Garfinkle Reunion on YouTube and stopped. Ground to a halt by Paul Simon's brilliant song writing and musicianship. It was weird how I lay in my bed in almost rainy morning and shades of my youth passed across my vision- all the people and places and colors and sounds. Did you ever see that old movie where Jose ferrer played the French painter Toulouse Lautrec? Well at the end of the movie he's dying and sees visions of all the beautiful dancing girls he painted flowing through his eyes. It was like that. Happy Thanksgiving my friends

Love that the French are major purchasers of books! So many publishing houses. If you want your children to be avid readers you have to buy them books…from a very early age. And, read to them. I miss those days!

Looking forward to seeing your illustrations in Nessy’s upcoming book. Your sketches are adorable! ❤️
