Japan Day

I always want what Kat is eating (in Tokyo). On New Years Day she had traditional holiday dishes; namasu and Toshikoshi Soba noodles.

I’ve been eating  noodles like a fool, sick with FOMO (The fear of missing out - is an emotional response to the belief that important opportunities are being missed. FOMO often leads to feelings of unease, dissatisfaction, depression and stress) since New Years. Eating noodles any which way. Finally, Echizen Tokyo TOGO, opened up after a week’s holiday. Then I didn’t see it on their menu, but got the daily special instead. What the hey.

Next I popped into Japanese Takumi Cheesecake a block away for a framboise pastry. If you ask nicely they’ll give you a slice of their ‘nature’ cheesecake, since they only sell the entire cheesecake. They say it’s impossible to slice 🔪
The Pyramid area and rue Saint Anne seems to be ‘
Japan town/Little Tokyo’ in Paris.
Have Takumi been dropping into librairie Junko for color inspo?
It’s more or less catty-corner to them on 18 rue des Pyramids, 75001
My favorite (and only) Japanese bookstore in Paris.
And it’s not just books, though there are plenty of those.
All manner of essential (and nonessential) accessories.
Downstairs they have a plethora of art supplies and art books
That make you feel weak in the knees like these artist’s polka dot stickers in shades of Monet, Klimt and Van Gogh. I don’t know how I resisted temptation (4+€)…
By the way, polka dots are Very IN, thanks to Louis Vuitton’s collab with the wonderful Yayoi Kusama. Her moving facsimile is in all their windows worldwide painting her polka dots! George too evidently has lent his ineffable image…
I love ❤️ This quote of Kusama’s
Moving right along - the obvious thing seemed to be to hit musée Quai Branly’s Kimono exhibit just a couple of metros away (7 + 9).
You have until 28 May to see this.
Definitely a don’t-miss
Whether you’re mad for Japanese culture
Or love exquisite Japanese design. The poster is by the master graphic artist, Ikko Tanaka.
Or a fashionista.
The exhibition was designed by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum
Looking back at the the kimono in all its ways, as the portrait of a resolutely modern garment, through the centuries and continents
. Anyway it’s a stunning exhibition whatever your preferences. I hope you take a ‘Japan Day’ whilst visiting Paris.
Coming home Paris was overcast comme l’habitude these days. I’m going to think about Spring. Thanks for reading and sharing Parisbreakfast. My Artwork awaits you on Etsy.
🐻💋❤️Please stay dry 🙏 PBers everywhere ❤️💋🐻

This Japanese presence is new since I was last in Paris, and I would so have loved it! Thank you for this post, and for all your posts about life in the city my husband loved above all others, and which I still hold in my heart, but now from afar.

  10. Thank you for this article on Little Japan...!
I used to live over Higuma on rue Villedo & rue Sainte-Anne.
I also discovered a very adults only Private Club by invie only on rueTherese & rue Sainte-Anne. Over the years I lived there saw some very fancyautos & limos drop off some very fancy folks...oh-la-la.
I think Heather Stimmler writes about it in her book "Naughty Paris".

Dear Carol, I was thinking of you tonight as I was reading another blog from France. There is a place about 5 min from Disneyland Paris called La Vallee Village. Do you know it? It is evidently a shopping area that gives discounts and has many of the luxe brands. lavalleevillage.com Might be worth a look see? If you have not already been there!

    Love,

Yes, it’s very well known. I have never been. I think it’s for tourists…The Winter sales are on if you want a price break thru February. Luxury brands are not my cuppa tea ☕️

  15. If I get there next fall, I think Rick and I would both like a Japan day. He's been there (Japan, not Paris-Japan) seven or eight times. Me only once but it is mesmerizing and the food is great, as you well know! Thanks for this!

  16. Japanese food is good! If it’s this easy to get then enjoy it I say. I don’t know how you resisted the stationary, I still have some stationary left over from all I bought last time I went to japan 7 years ago now. Good to know I could do a Paris/Japan visit……one day.
