My hostess in Maine (I have not moved here permanently to Rocklnd in case you were wondering) goes fast walking every morning at 6-6:15 am with her pals. I decided to join in. Of course I cannot keep up with them which is fine. But its a great way to immerse yourself into the landscape as preparation for painting that landscape. Another very good thing - you can listen to ON VA DEGUSTER PODCASTS (Let's go taste) whilst walking and improve your French. Plus learning essential facts about French cuisine. This morning I learned how to say 'rue fuud' (raw food). You can say things outloud too...very helpful. Great for the pronunciation and how I tuned up my French before moving to France.
What I saw on my walkies...
Why I Must continue to go walkies when I get back to Paris on Wednesday! The best pizza in the world bar none IMHO from RUSTICA'S on Main Street in Rockland, if you like corn meal crust.
Lush porridge from the SALTY OWL at the Owl's Head airport.
Nice rhubarb-blueberry muffins
The essential ePod
A few choice podcasts fron ON VA DEGUSTER. I recommend repeated listenings. Maybe even memorizing like French kids do in school. Really fun with funky music and famous chefs etc.
I have their first book (in French) full if infographics plus recipes toute en Française
I have yet to get their new book but I plan to. Plenty of recipes included. I will definitely miss coming home from walking to lovely Theolonious Monk. I'm considering cat-napping him. My carryon is fairly light. Oui o non?

Maine, so beautiful. I live 2 states away and never go. Why???
ReplyDeleteOui, he would look good in Paris! My daughter & I are traveling to Portland, Maine mid-October. I already bought the tickets to see Winslow Homer's studio (so excited!). Is Rockland worth a drive up the coast? It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe entire coast of Maine is beautiful. By mid-October, the mid-coast region should be slightly past peak foliage, but it will still be wonderful!
DeleteI'm getting torn -- Paris is beautiful, but America is pretty, is she not? Especially, vis-à-vis Rockland, Maine. Carol, you have such a wonderful eye. I do enjoy your photographs, whether they be Paris, France, and/or the U.S.A.!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Maine!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful landscapes, in a stark way. I think Thelonious is very happy where he is and I'm sure he doesn't speak French, so best leave him there. He is tempting tho.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...consensus appears to be no cat-napping
DeleteQuelle triste...
I think the TSA peeps would get you if you tried to smuggle this katt into your carry-on. And the fud in jail isn't as good as in the Owl's Head airport (who knew Owl's Head had an airport?).
ReplyDeleteAgain, thank you for another ME treat. I recognize 90% of the places you shared on your walks.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
I never had pizza (which I do love) with corn meal crust - but it sounds good!!
ReplyDeleteVery crunchy or as the French say, Croustillant !
DeleteI really love reading your posts. Mille mercis.
ReplyDeleteRaw food in French is aliments crus.
Enjoy your time in Maine!
Thinking has changed in France...listen to ON VA DEGUSTER to catch up
DeleteYour walk is better than mine. Lol
ReplyDeleteWe will see how it goes walking along the Seine...
DeleteMaine may win the prize.
Lobster Rolls please
ReplyDeleteNot happening...
DeleteI prefer the mess of steamed lobsters !
Beautiful post, Carol. I'm looking forward to having a chance to catch up with any earlier posts from your time in Maine...I fell behind because of husband's September 7 cancer surgery. I loved walking around Portland and the nearby Maine coast during a recent visit. I never, however, listen to podcasts, music or anything but the sweet sounds all around me when I am walking. Those sounds are integral to the wonders (and safety) of being-fully-present-in-the-here-and-now while walking. Enjoy the rest of your trip, Leslie
ReplyDeleteAt 6 am the birds are sleeping
DeleteThe fog doesnt make a sound either...
In Maine mornings are magical. Drink it all in. Keep it.
ReplyDeleteI am Lynne
DeleteThe days here are too short...
So atmospheric! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMight there be a Maine series of art in your future? It looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis good looks delicious! Cat-nap the cat!
