I have been in Carcassonne since Sunday, so far away from Notre Dame disastre. I am doing a drawing 'stage' or workshop with Jeremy Soheylian.
Turrets, crenelated stone walls, archways. We are drawing them all. Well some are more successful than others...ahem
This is Martine of Lyon sketching. She cleverly brought along soap bubbles to blow in moments of frustration with these turrets, walls and archways.
One of my doodles...blood, sweat and tears here.
The church in the background is too big. Grrrrr
Our group trying to draw an impossible archway. Grrrrr
Clever Lise of Limoux ( not far from here) has the best sketching stool. My 3-legged tripod is hurting my back something terrible. I will leave it here. More grrrr
This is Madame Carcassonne, Martine tells me. Who knew? The entrance, Place de Prado.
My petite esquises(sketches) in the Place. See you soon in Paris PBers!!!

carol I say it every time your work is unbelievable.....LOVE getting a peak into the process-
ReplyDeleteYou have really captured la Cité! And you have some lovely weather.
ReplyDeleteAre you at the Hotel Bristol?
Our favorite resto (take a cab; it's hard to find): le Clos des Framboisiers. Very delicious (a small menu but something for every taste), reasonably priced and a beautiful setting.
No, no thank goodness. I was 5 minutes walk from the Cité. Bristol is next to the train station!! Would have been a bad choice. I was late every day meeting the group as is.
DeleteNo time or energy left after clocking in 7 hours of intensive drawing. We got an hour off at 1:30 for a sandwich.
Very un-French. 😬😬
End of day Just rolled into bed, put the tv on and dropped off.
I NEED A VACATION FROM MY VACATION!!
Beautiful sketcings!
ReplyDeleteSo full of sensibilty and art, love them!
Salut! With a flûte of Blanquette de Limoux
THANK YOU Lucia!
DeleteI had to look that up...what a good idea! Next time. Yum
Thanks for taking us through the process of sketching. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteSuch a delight to see your photos and art work in my email, thank you for sharing your view of the world, it is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSince you are in Carcasonne, I must share a book I listened to recently, ‘Narrow Dog to Carcasonne’ by Terry Darlington. It made me laugh out loud, the reader makes it so funny.
ReplyDeleteThe book has lovely descriptions of England and France as viewed by a witty Welshman from a canal boat.

Carry on with the crenellations!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your sketches and you captured Madame Carcassonne perfectly.
ReplyDeleteMadame Carcassonne is quite something!
DeleteNot exactly Rapunzel...haha 😀
Spent many hours in Carcassonne with my semester abroad students. It was a good place to celebrate birthdays.
ReplyDeleteI think I can assure you GwenEllyn it hasn't changed much since student days.
DeleteEverything you draw is delightful. so what if the church is too big..it still works as a drawing. thank you for Paris Breakfasts.
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiration...always going on some adventure!
I do remember carcassonne. And all those ally ways to walk through. Wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteYour sketches are WONDERFUL. And who KNEW that "the church in the background is too big?" Not me. Not anyone I'll bet! Wish I could sketch like you do. Perfection.
ReplyDeleteJust wonderful drawings Carol and it is always fun to view the process of your paintings. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzanne,
DeleteThe drawings were spontaneous. All those people from all walks of life. I saw some Tibetan monks touching the walls.
Your drawings are wonderful. What a wonderful environment
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting site to sketch. Lovely work.
ReplyDeleteI am glad everyone knows you were out of the path of discord in Paris this week.
Stay safe.
Be well
I hope you'll get a proper sketching stool. You deserve it. I continue to love your work and sketches are among my favorite styles.
ReplyDeleteI think all of your sketches are wonderful but the last two are my favorites. I just love the way you do simple figures.
ReplyDeleteAfter drawing those big towers and crenelated walls for 5 days maybe the funny figures were a bit of comic relief!!
DeleteI love your sketches, Carol; great work.
ReplyDeleteI know the struggle!! LOL! I think you are doing great, carry on!
ReplyDeleteI'VE BEEN IN CARCASSONNE AND LIKED IT VERY MUCH. YOUR PHOTOS AND SKETCHES ARE WONDERFUL!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
ReplyDeleteMay I ask what kind of writing instrument do you use to draw your sketches? Fountain pen? Felt tip marker?
Ask away!
DeleteWhatever's at hand Rebecca. I carry with me usually a Flair pen, Pentel 'Touch' pen in different colors, Pentel Brush Pen, and my latest is a Tombow fudenosuke brush pen (hard).
Plus always Pentex ultra micro white corrector!!! For bad lines.
I adore that last sketch!♥
ReplyDeleteHowever ALL of them are great..you are critical of your buildings and I think you nailed them!!
Great photos and sketches of Carcassonne! Another place I need to visit. You should have a do nothing holiday, at least a week of nothing much is amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI AGREE! Especially if it ia at the beach with a constant flow of lobsters on order!!
DeleteNext train out please!!
