Rainbow Fashion

When I opened My Little Paris this morning, it was full of 2010 trends to look for...
One of them is couleurs « clashtastiques »
Featuring every color of the rainbow in an eclectic mix of patterns. If colorful is your thing, then this is your time. Colors were all over the catwalk. Vibrant and multi-colored Is Hot. This is depression-busting at its finest.
Naturally I started thinking about macarons and how wildly colorful they are...

And since I had some freshly painted macs...ahem
Macaron colors have always fascinated me. I love trying to mix up and match the real thing in watercolor paint...

These multi-colored puppies come from Franc DeVille - visit his site for many visual and virtual delights. Virtual delights are another strong trend by the way...
Gerard Mulot throws that paintbrush around big time. WOW!
Here is where you get your macaron colors at G.Detou at 58, rue Tiquetonne 75002.
I went so far as to buy some of these - egg yoke yellow!
You can watch a mini film here of how the colors are mixed into the meringue shells at Fresson Patisserie.
Not my photo..I wish I knew whose it was..So if tons of color is going to raise our spirits in 2010, why not add a few colorful macarons into the mix?
On y va!
BONJOUR RAINBOW MACARONS!

Piece Montee

This piece montee was in Pierre Herme's rue Bonaparte shop...
Piece Montee de macarons, original art, 5.5" x 7.5"

I am ever obsessed with these tall stacks of macarons and so fun to paint! I am soooo tempted to invest in one of these strictly for research of course. I love this logo for the French Bakery association...I love the way you see these all over Paris decorating whatever like Xmas trees - here at Le Valentin...At the chateau...
Lenotre has made their piece montee into a twirly tall tower...
Saduharu Aoki's real tree of macarons at last year's Salon du Chocolat...
Wouldn't it be fun if these were giant macarons climbing up the sides of the Eiffel Tower and it was for REAL...say for Macaron Day in Paris?
This is Sophia's tower of carmalized macarons...
She created this mini tea salon...dreamy non?
BONJOUR LUNDI!

Bonjour Macarons Again

French macarons,9 x 11

Once you start painting French macarons it's hard to stop...Not unlike eating them...
French Chat Faim, 9 x 11
Course this isn't exactly a macaron, but a distant cousin, at least in terms of location in the pastry counter.... These are local New York brew - Georgia's and I keep meaning to try them again. Maybe this weekend I'll explore a bit.
Also here, but shipped in from Paris! at La Maison du Chocolat and the very best New York has to offer to this date in my opinion, but I am open to any suggestions...
Le Grand Epicerie in Paris is rather casual with their macarons - their boxes are not the proper fit at all and your macs will toss around liberally - not recommended if you like to eat a perfect unbroken macaron...hmmm
I really should buy this at Zazzle...simply for inspiration of course.
I love Gerard Mulot's brilliantly colored and flavored macarons -not-to-be-missed and just a few steps from the creme de la butter creme Pierre Herme.
A few more steps more and you can stand in line for these beauties.

I MUST try Thevenin's macs next trip - I've shot them soooo many times!
My Paris fridge last trip - all for reference, researche, painting and serious study etc.
BONJOUR MACARONS AGAIN!

un petit cadeau...

As much as I love to eat French macarons...
French macarons, original art, 5.5" x 7.5"

I'd forgotten how much fun it is to paint them!
Macaron Stack, original art, 5.5" x 7.5"

Recently a PB reader asked if there were any more of the smaller watercolors...
It's been a long time since I've eaten a cupcake...

Or painted one and that's what she wanted.

Angelina Hot Chocolate, original art, 5.5" x 7.5"

Somehow I just couldn't stop painting today - that's why I'm sooo late posting!
Besides I just realized that exactly this time last year, I first started selling my watercolors on Etsy!

In exactly 2 weeks, I'll be a runaway again off to the Eiffel Tower...
Thanks for making all my wishes come true!

What French Women Know

Sometimes publishers send me books about the French woman...Yesterday I took a second look at What French Women Know...thinking it would be another book telling unsavvy Americains how to tie our scarves and eat leek soup daily - mais non!I was completely engaged. Granted the French woman does think differently. Very differently.French women start thinking differently in kindergarden - books on philosophy for kids at the Paris Salon de Livre. I was amazed.French women look different from us and they get the training early... Why can they pull off messy hair better than anybody else? Because a hairdresser creates this, not sleeping in. They put on our jeans and look so darn chic! Parisianne Anne says I mustn't say chic, but rather 'c'est classe'. Chic is passe...French women put on OUR Converse (baskets) and look so much better! Heck
Being de classe isn't an age thing.
For the French woman
Debra Oliver's book is not so caught up in these superficial, surfacy details, but it's thought provoking. It just came out, so au courant.
There is one thing we women agree upon, French and Americain.
We ALL LOVE MACARONS!
What do you think about French women? Are you in awe?
BONJOUR FRENCH WOMEN! We salute you!
