Mini Fauchon Tea Tin

Fauchon Tea Tin, watercolor,9" x 11"

I used to paint from Re-ment miniatures.

That's how I fell in love with this tea tin browsing at MeowPaw's minis. I used to go hunting every morning for interesting things to paint among the Flickr mad mini collectors...

Identical to a real tea tin from Fauchon, my fav Paris place to browse...

We used to have one in New York and I went every Sunday to browse religiously. I really miss it.
Now I must go to Paris if I want to browse in Fauchon...
I would LOVE to wear a pink apron. Do you need a New Yorker, Fauchon to help taste new cakes and assist tourists?
First thing I'd try out is this "squared" citron tarte...
Oh, another squared thing - a "Rubik" tarte needs tasting in my opinion. Miam! Triple Framboise YUM!A macaron gateaux! I would send this lovely gift basket to you Atsuko-san, for sending me your mini tea tin all the way from Japan.

It brought back many memories...

DIY The a la Menthe at Petersham Nurseries

More greens, this time the 'drink me' kind.

This lovely fresh green mint.

Is growing on French Girl's balcon taking in the Paris sun or Paris grey skies, whichever happens first. This is her 'appart' jardin.

I asked if she knew how to make fresh mint tea and she proceeded to tell me, first I must make 'REAL' tea, then add fresh mint leaves to the hot tea. Non non non!
Do you know how to make fresh mint tea? Do tell svp.

sketch parlor london I had it at Sketch Parlour in London, which one of you brilliant PB readers said I MUST visit. I'd ordered Rooibos tea, but when the server saw me turn up my nose at the strong aroma, she offered instead some fresh mint tea.

sketch parlour london The best afternoon tea is at Sketch I'm happy to announce.
I loved their 'fresh' mint tea = instant addiction to something that may even be healthy.

sketch parlour london This is a super fun place. It does take a bit of searching out. I almost didn't go. Luckily I was wearing my macaron T-shirt so they felt obliged to seat me immediately, though I had not reserved ahead.

On Sunday morning I traipsed out to Richmond (which took all of 10 minutes on the Waterloo train) to Petersham Nurseries, another London must-do. Because of my rotten missing 'green thumbs' I don't dare own any plants, but it's still well worth a visit.

A bit of lunch seemed a good idea. When the server asked what I'd like, I said, "cake please". Completely daft of me, as the Brits say, since all they have IS cake on this table!

‘Fresh' courgette soup (that's zucchini to you).

And the 'fresh' mint tea again. YUM

Now I know what do to with all the glass teapots I've collected to paint. That is as soon as you tell me how to make fresh mint tea correctly.

Sitting in the caf' at Petersham is just fine unless you book ahead for the restaurant. It's much more posh.

On to Paris mint tea. Feeling completely bushed yesterday after just one hour's sleep (in deadly fear of missing the 'CHUNNEL' train) I stopped in the newly refurbished salon de the in Printemps for mint tea. But it was made the way French girl makes it. Refreshing none the less, but no 'fresh' mint leaves saying hello to you.

And what to have with your mint tea?
Definitely not these toy felt petit fours unless you're a doudou.

A luscious looking charlotte gateaux.
BONJOUR THE A LA MENTHE FRAIS!

Chocolate Show #2

What you missed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday...
I know you'd wanna know - dark bark from Pure Dark...

More big tastes...from E.Guittard chocolate providers to chefs and sold only at the show to the public.
Maison Boissier was there from France...
Loads of bonbons...
Chocolate antiques...
Of course a chocolate fountain from Lily O'brien...
That chocolate tea I was telling you about - one of many...
Delicious chocolate from Italy - De Bondt with things embedded in it...
Straight up plain chocolate from El Rey...
Fair Trade chocolate from Equal Exchange Co-Op - here they explain about chocolate...
I liked this concept - Organic, raw, no sugar, vegan, no gluten, no soy. But chocolate is included!
You got to chat directly with the chocolate makers...
And drink chocolatey things too that made your head spin and see...
Large haunted chocolate houses made by culinary students...
Finally there was a box of the 10 best chocolates in the show - a first I think. Y'all come next year.
Munch..munch...munch...
BONJOUR NOVEMBER!!!

Paris Petit Dejeuner Boulangerie Paul

Melissa asked me, would I please visit a boulangerie chain this trip. Since it was right across the street from my hotel, I had petit dejeuner there.
*Note the petit dejeuner is called "Le Parisien"That's meant especially for ParisBreakfasts readers. I do have a problem with the French insisting on calling Danish pastries, "Viennoiseries" I
A demo tray in the entry so you know what your getting.

I ordered "Le Continental"
When C. emailed me in Paris requesting to bring her back boxes of French chocolate, my immediate thought was I can't.
My bags are filled with what Marcel Proust calls Remembrances of Things Past..True, I do bring back empty chocolate boxes, but that's for still life usage.Paris petit Dejeuner, watercolor, 9" x 11 "

Many cafes no longer put their brands on glasses etc, so their tableware won't end up on your table...hmmm
The dining room...

I love old graphics and typography. As if we needed any enticement to enter.*repost from April, '07
