Happy Mothers Day dear PBers!

Among all the antiques in the flea markets of l'Isle-sur-la-Sorge is a hidden treasure easily missed.

In the town center on 26, rue Carnet near the Mairie is a wonderful personal collection.

Musee du Jouet de la Poupee Ancienne opened 13 years ago but the pieces date from 1880 through 1920.

The doll collector, sweet Madame Huguette Jeanselme, in her 90s, is onsite to share stories.

A hat makers shop setup with chapeau, threads and silk flowers.

A perfumers shop filled with miniature bottles.

The Dione quintuplets dolls intact and complete in their gift box.

These old dollies have such character and mystery

With a twist of a knob on the top of her head, she becomes instantly grumpy and tearful.

Wonderful old children's photos line the walls. Doesn't this French girl look like Eloise at the Plaza?

Is this Madame, the collector as a little girl?

A huge gypsy caravan with all the accoutrement on the inside, pots and pans and what have you.

My favorite of course is the old ice cream cart.

Did your mother make doll clothes for your dolls? Mine did. She studied fashion design, so went at it with gusto. Maybe you didn't like dolls? I was addicted and wasted endless hours gazing longingly at unobtainable dolls in Wanamaker's, Philadelphia.

I hope you're having a lovely Mother's Day. As Bear's Mom, I spent mine painting the watercolor rose above over and over. Spring has finally sprung in Paris and the banks of the Seine are cluttered with picnickers. Here's a berry tarte from last Sunday, first of May with lily of the valley decoration.

When ever I read interviews with French chefs or just about anyone here, they always ask what was their 'madeleine de Proust'? What was your favorite food from childhood. But they never ask what was your favorite toy? Find the Frenchie in this tableau? Merci Haribo.

Doll houses and all their tiny bits and pieces were my heart throb, more than Oreo cookies or cupcakes.

On Friday I went with 365 Dresses to visit Musée de la Poupée hidden down a cul de sac in the Marais. They certainly have a lot of toys and dolls.

Wonderful period tableaux that take you back to another time in an instant and they change them from my previous visits.

365 says it's easy to print out these old fashioned grocery boxes from the internet and DIY.

I was a huge paper doll fan. Were you?

Are there still paper dolls around today?

The museum in their shop offers facsimiles of 19th century paper dolls for a mere 2€  if you need a fix.

These dolls are so expressive. The whole range of human emotions is displayed.

Including severe frustration. Yesterday I was making this face all morning !  I woke up and realized I'd left ALL my credit cards in BHV (we stopped in to buy pencils). I always put my cards inside my Sports bra then I don't have to worry. They never fall out..ahem. In fact I missed and they dropped on the floor at BHV's cashier. After tearing my studio upside down I raced up there armed with all my ID and luckily at Clientel Service they had them! Very lucky indeed. Put a Big happy smile on my face after that ;))

We went to the museum especially to see the Barbie Retro chic exhibit

We were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed it.

They have interesting dolls and toys for sale in the museum shop. I thought these might be perfume bottle tops but 365 said the holes were to attach skirts.

I often feel, these days I'm living in the movie REAR WINDOW

The view out my window is compelling and looks much like a lit up dolls house doesn't it?

 The dogs of Paris fascinate me endlessly and even moreso les petits chiens de Le Musee de la Poupee

This little musee is one of Paris' many well hidden secrets.

True it is hidden in a little cul de sac,

I went back 2 times before I hit it lucky but well worth the trouble.

These French bebes did not miss their TGV. Pas de tout.

It's holiday time in Paris and lots of patisseries are closing their shutters to go au plage. 

Me, I'm going to the piscine soon as I finish this post. I've been remiss this trip, skipping the pool visits and it shows :(
