ReplyDeleteI know. I fell in love ❤️ 4 times on brief visits. This is for only one night but it is extraordinary to wake up and walk around in the morning light.

Would you be willing to share your "Roussillion palette" of paints, brand(s) and paint names? As you know, i'm just a beginner in watercolour, so this would be wonderful to know. Burnt Sienna (always!) for basic line drawing
Naples yellow - always a base color for washes
Yellow ochre
Raw sienna
Burnt Umber
Cobalt blue
French ultramarine blue
Kremer Pigments:

DeleteSo i have now examined in minute detail the Kremer Pigments site - how much fun it would be to make paint! Have you seen their 30 Years of NY Soil paint box? There's also a kit for making primary colours. I could spend every sou i have on watercolour. Looking forward to your additional paintings re Roussillon - no such thing as too much. -k.
DeleteI worked at KP for 5 years part-time in their NY store. Being surrounded by all that color was inspiring. I started their watercolor program.

Kremer has an Earth color chart with 50-60 shades!

FYI - DANIEL SMITH always got their pigments from Kremer.
They started making watercolor paints after we did
Ex. monte amiata natural sienna Is from Tuscany.
Earth colors can come from everywhere including Roussillon

ReplyDeleteYou choose the best places to show us the beauty that exists! Thank you for this mini adventure and of course the new knowledge of some pigments! But yes, someone must remedy the missed opportunity of clothing and scarfs at least in these amazing colors! You just might have to do it! 😎
ReplyDeleteThose apricots & rust colors are so complimentary to skin tones. Its odd you can’t find a hing there. No I❤️ROUSSILLON T-shirts at all!?

DeleteI have been going to Roussillon for 30 years--have enlarged photos in my kitchen which bring me happiness and remembrances. Loved your experience and would so love to return and spend a day sketching there. Thanks for the memories and the inspiration!

DeleteRoussillon is an inspiring place with few changes from my first visit in 2006
It’s not the easiest place to get to if you don’t drive.
Very few buses go there.
Your palettes alone are works of art so nice of you to share your colors.I remember your posts re Kremer.Have fun I love it there.

Roussillon! What a perfect place for you to visit and paint. I’m no artist, but appreciated the beauty of the colors in the hillside as the sun washed over them. Hope you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI can’t thank you enough for your wonderful emails. They are just a joy. Plus I did subscribe to your monthly letter. It was so cool to receive it in the mail with the French stamps, which I’ve saved for collages. My husband and I leave for Paris mid-October for two weeks in Paris to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I’ve saved many of your posts so that we can plan our itinerary around them. The Sennelier watercolor store is close to our hotel so that will be one of our first stops. I’m bringing my watercolor “stuff” with me. That’s what I do on the plane. Again, thank you.

Gorgeous! Love, love, love the colors of the buildings in Roussillion. The former convent you are staying in is wonderful with that lovely view of color from your window. Your painting on the train was beautiful. The photo of the hillside was just breathtaking. Enjoy every moment.
