It's so easy to fall for the wrong guy isn't it? Who knew there could be so much heart break over a chicken timer?

When I let my secret passion out of the bag, PBer 'Switchboard' of Baltimore felt obliged to help me out. She insisted on sending Monsieur Chicken no matter what.
I received updates,
"the chicken has flown the coop".
Unfortunately M. Chicken did not work/ne march pas upon arrival. We won't go into the gory details. Switchboard was beside herself with grief. "I'm a little worried about the chicken" she wrote.

Low and behold another smaller chicken was sent et VOILA!
This one works perfectly.
 

I seem to have a thing for birds along with paintboxes and bears. Sadly I left quite a few behind when I made the big move to Paris.
 

But Yellow Bird, has always been 'Top Dog' among les oiseaux so he made the grade even though he now has a broken left foot.
 

This classy guy has had many a fine petit dejeuner etc.

He's quite fond of macarons too even though his origins are questionable.
 

On Sunday I happened to pop into Saveurs d'Alsace and there in the window a blue bird caught my eye.
 

The other birds are not best pleased and raising a squawk, but what's a girl to do?
Today is the 1st day of the SOLDES/Summer sales in Paris. Everyone is out with their giant shopping bags knocking people over. Ho hum. Must go feed the birds.
 

 

Paris Soldes!

 When you see a white shopping bag in Paris with just the word 'soldes' on it you may be leaping for joy

 Or running for cover.

 Just TWO times a year for the big sales in Paris, though shops have found work-arounds for lesser sales throughout the year.

 Today is the LAST DAY of the summer Soldes so you better hurry up!

 I was fascinated by the variety of signage - a wonderfully witty kiddie's shop - Petit Pan, worth stopping in whether a sale is on or not.

 Mona Lisait is a small chain whose books are already remaindered - art, cookbooks and books of general interest so a sale here would be a must.

 Galeries Lafayette can be depended upon for exciting soldes adverts thanks to Jean- Paul Goude.

 Another J-P Goude masterpiece - are these women fighting over the man or the shirt on sale? Qui sait? Le mec/guy doesn't mind a bit.

 I didn't see anyone actually fighting over merchandise but the department stores were mayhem as soon as the clock struck 10 AM

 You had to go a tad earlier to get any peace or space.

 By the time I left prices were falling even further - final reductions were on the menu.

 How come the only patisserie (and all-round foodie shop) to have sales was Fauchon.

Paris Soldes

Last Sunday Parisien Anne was telling me that the Winter Soldes start on Wednesday - yesterday in fact.

Who wouldn't JUMP for GLEE, since Paris officially has only two big sale periods every year. I met Christiane 10 years ago whilst standing on the Sonia Rykiel line out in the cold. Back then a little heater was put outside and coffee was served to the patient attendees. Inside boxes were jammed full of SR goodies marked with a flat prix. Those good ole days are gone I bet...sigh

OUIPerhaps you are supposed to arrive naked/nu at the sales..?
At 70% off who wouldn't? Sale days are called "The Days of Passion" at this boutique. Here's what I don't get. Don't you think there should be a community effort and EVERYBODY should join in Les Jours Passion and have sales/soldes? Why doesn't Jean-Paul Hevin put his chocolate bars/tablettes on sale just for a few days? Or Angelina do the same with their Mont Blanc desserts?

Where is the team spirit?
