Salon de la Patisserie 2018

Last Friday I went to the opening of the new SALON DE LA PATISSIERIE at Porte de versailles. Here's my haul of irresistable goodies + tons of envelope stuffers. I came home loaded.

This stunning tin i got for 5€ minus the macarons made by BRUNO LAFFARGUE.

I raided the Italian stand, AGRIMONTANA from the Piedmonte area. This wild, black cherry jam is seriously dangerous.

So was their panettone (the small one) long gone.

The absolute best chocolate in the world and a well-kept secret is Italian, DOMORI. Only selling 1-pound slabs of this amazing chocolate made from the best beans in the world, Venezuelan Criolla. I was chipping away at it, hourly and finally unloaded it on my guy at the copyshop. He will never eat bad chockie bars again. Ruined for life. This is a must-taste if you're lucky enough to come across it.

I deeply admired DALLOYAU's exquisite pastries like this cherry number.
And painted it later without tasting. You have to know your limits at these events.

The Salon was heaven for anyone who actually bakes.

Though there was plenty to keep snackers occupied.

Many, many free demos

And grand pastry chefs sharing their secrets.

Special small ateliers were offered by the Ritz, Fauchon, Valrhona chocolat and other top-drawer brands. Note the elegant Ritz chef in the background foraging in the fridge. They don't appear to eat do they...?

Have any of you tried this tumeric sirop? It looked so enticing color-wise and the packaging.

Meanwhile the rest of Paris was picnicking by the Seine. The ravaged grass yet to recover from our March floods didn't seem to make a bit of difference to Parisians, always happy to lounge outdoors and eat at the drop of a hat.

More picnicking in the adorable windows of toy shop, L'EPEE DE BOIS, near rue Mouffetard. I'm running back there soon as I finish painting a tiny enamel child's cup and saucer I fell in love with yesterday..more my cup of tea than cake molds truth be told, but if you love cake do plan to attend next year's SALON DE LA PATISSERIE by all means.

Maison de la Chantilly, Ines de la Fressange,

Tuesday was whipped cream tasting day at MAISON DE LA CHANTILLY
Gorgeous little mouthfuls of just the right amount of Chantilly whipped cream gathered from special French cows (FYI they do not reside at Chateau Chantilly but rather mid-France. Each one was personally interviewed and selected).
Their soft caramels made with Chantilly cream are 2-die-for I kid you not.
The Chef was on hand to fill your little cookie cone.
Not just any whipped cream can call it self 'crème Chantilly' by the way. There are rules just like Champagne. It is strictly regulated and requires a minimum of 30% fat. Who knew?
They have real Fontainebleaux and Pavlovas (I had to taste one). My first.
On Maison de la Chantilly's website they offer strawberry soup. I'm going back!
Strawberries make you think of shortcake. Red, white and blue July 4th coming up this Saturday.
The best, newest place to get your 4th outfit is Ines de la Fressange's shop on 24, rue de Grenelle 75007
Once an old bronze fixtures factory, the black- painted display cases are original and stunning
As is all the merchandise.
This is her concept store with something for everyone and their maison.
It's hard not to love her casual taste and superb eye.
Fressange's ebullient spirit is ever present.
I loved ❤️ everything in her store.
Especially the bits and pieces on her inspo board. Ines as a petite fille?
Fun, fun, fun! A don't miss shop with prices in all ranges.
Who knew there would be a Fourth of July Street Food festival in Paris?
I fell for cerises/fraises 🍓earrings in a shop window on rue Saint Louis en L'Ile. Cerises 🍒 are cute too.
This weekend I'll be painting strawberries at Chateau du Petit Thouars Independence day celebration.
Any PBers who show up will get the latest July Cherry 🍒 Sketch Letter  free. Y'all come.

Cest la cerise sur le gâteau

Today in Pqris...
Started off with a sighting of the first affordable cherries of the season post-pool.
Galeries Layfayette by the way has beautiful combo boxes of big fat red cherries and perfect apricots from the Drome. More later..
Waltzing through Le Bon Marché always inspires me. Today they had something I could afford!
ICE CREAM (3,50€ one boule) made by Glaces Glazed. Nice they're into summer.
Outside on rue du Bac a peach of a little French girl.
A slightly older French girl in cherry-red shoes with a little dog hiding under her chair.
I went inside Cafe Varenne for lunch. Do you know it in the 7th? Lovely.
My waiter waits.
Back on rue du Bac in Des Gateaux et Du Pain real cherries on top of the cake.
Il s'agit d'une métaphore pâtissière où une jolie cerise rouge posée au sommet d'un gâteau, apparaît comme la touche finale de décoration pour le rendre encore plus appétissant.
I got yelled at for shooting this perfect dome.
Further down at Chapon, brilliantly-colored guimauve cubes (marshmallows).
Back in Galeries Lafayette beautiful berries from the Drome.
Liberté has berry choux puffs at GL.
Sadaharu Aoki has a brand new chocolate bar with macarons on top called a 'Macalette'.
Usually the Pedone gelato counter is quiet in Galeries Lafayette. Not today.
Pedone made No.2 on Le Figaro's best vanilla ice creams in Paris (just after my Berthillon).
Their flavors (parfums).
Why didn't I get the Amareno with the cherries?
I felt obliged to taste the vanilla and pistachio. Trés bien! Two flavors in a petit size cup 3,60€
Have you ever bought fruit in the Metro or from the lone guys just outside the stations?
I couldn't resist the cherries. No way!
My day in Paris.
