- Tuesday morning SOLLI gave me a giant bag of cherries ๐
- Tuesday evening I met Karen at classic Bistrot Paul Bert (18 rue Paul Bert). Have you been?
- I’ve known Karen of the irresistibly, delicious Ooh La La Artisan Confectionery since at least 2012.
- Back then Karen’s daughters looked like this…
- They turned into two stunning Odalisques, both in short, white, lace dresses from Zara if you want their look ๐
- French classical painter, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres would have stayed up nights dreaming of them.
- They arrived Tuesday from visiting New York, where Karen was showing her out-of-this-world Frenchie-style candies at the annual NY Fancy Food Show, (which I used to attend).
- I was given an extra candy box for Solli (who is away). Karen makes her candies in South Africa.
- Anyhoo what to eat at Le Paul Bert. The menu is very meaty..not so much for vegetarians. By the way, they have a good seafood restaurant, just next door, L’Ecailler du Bistrot.
- So I got the salade de Buratta.
- Karen, who can put away several horses ๐ at dinner and never show an ounce, got steak au poivre de Sarawak. The peppercorns are from a Malaysian island in Borneo.
- After having the foie gras. The girls also got the steak and Tatare de boeuf. I was surrounded.
- Through dinner we talked dreamily of the Soufflรฉ au Grand Marnier for dessert ๐ฎ *ALERT- order it the moment you sit down or you could be out of luck.
- We were too late, so we shared รle Flottante au pralinรฉ roses (which I had been secretly ๐️ eye-balling anyway.
- Major Yum!
- Thรฉ Paul Bert has a cute gift shop. I checked before going and fell hard for their espresso cup. I meant to order one to photograph but forgot while wallowing in the delish flottante.
- Today I added Solli’s cherries ๐ to coffee cups- et voila
- To be found on Etsy ๐
- Everyone asks how was Fete de National/Bastille Day ๐ซ๐ท on Monday? Nothing that festive like in New York.
- The ‘fireworks’ were controversial.
- Too many drones complained
- The people who waited all day
- At the Tour Eiffel. I watched Le feu d'artifice/14 juillet next day on FR2 and liked it ๐
- ๐ Keep cool ❤️
All too beautiful. Merci.
ReplyDeleteDo they still serve the lovely cheese course at Paol Bert?

ReplyDeleteOh la la’s candies look fabulous, and beautiful packaging! How does that family stay so chicly slender making candies?! It’s a mystery. ❤️
Magic is the only answer. I have no idea. I came home and inhaled them. The next morning - the rest for breakfast. I am waiting for thรฉ Sword of Damocles to fall on me ๐ง
DeleteCarol! Love your cherry watercolors! ๐
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post Carol. Enjoyed seeing your friend Karen's lovely daughters and her french style candies look absolutely delicious. I would have ordered the salad too at Paul Bert and that dessert looked amazing! Your painting of the cherries in the espresso cup is delightful.

DeleteThis was fabulous. I looked for the cherries cups but didn’t find them. Also go back and hit the food show. I love those shows. I used to go in SF. And LA. Lynne
