Have you walked inside the Hotel George V?
31, Avenue George V 75008
Flowers are refreshed hourly. The hotel's world famous restaurant Cinq is graced with his signature bouquets.
He has a new book coming out shortly. This book is from a few years ago. Do look at his Pinterest page. Wow!
My tea partner Rosemary (we visited Guerlain's 68 previously) picked a dessert from the trolley that was pom-pom shaped like Leatham's flowers.
A choux pastry filled with caramelized cream, pecans and touches of dark chocolate created by new pastry chef, Laurent Gautier.
The High tea 'Celebration' 68 included champagne, tea, sandwiches, petit fours, and scones was 70€, definitely a splurge, but if it's your birthday or anniversary why not?
An afternoon of luxe, calm et volupté is in order non? We were guests of the hotel since it was no ones birthday.
Rosemary Flannery, an art historian, leads art tours in Paris and author of The Angels of Paris, so only she would know the divine cannele pastry means fluting.
After tea we got a grand tour of the hotel. The spa is instant serenity. Soothing aromas fill the hallways.
I've become obsessed with Parisian hotel elevator cages. The George V was built in 1928 and has decidedly Deco influences.
We got to see the absolute creme de la creme of hotel penthouses - room after room of luxury. Perfect for a dreamy honeymoon.
Inside and out on the terrace are views of the Eiffel Tower banked with Jeff Leatham white orchids. This painting in the penthouse perfectly captures the overall spirit of Hotel Georgs V. Lush and grand. Need I say more? Do stop in for a look and perhaps a tea in La Galeria.
Enjoyed every minute when I stayed there several nights on a business trip years ago. Room service was wonderful as well. The flowers and the room were divine. Glad nothing has changed and thanks for the memories!
ReplyDelete"The flowers are refreshed every hour".....and this is what makes the Georges V...the Georges V!
ReplyDeleteOoh, la, la, la, la, la! This looks the best of all the marvelous teas you've been posting! Love all the flowers! We have a hotel in Baltimore called "The Admiral Fell Inn." Don't you think Jeff could write a perfect travel book called: "Georges V and The Admiral Fell Inn."
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have been treated to tea at the fabulous George V. Elegant surroundings, and delicious tidbits to accompany the champagne.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely oooh la and la.
Carol, hoping you've received the NY Times article I emailed to you. Seemed to cover something you'd know more about.
Beautiful day in NYC today. Temps in the upper 70s, lower 80s, clear blue sky with puffy littly clouds. Central Park looking really overgrown. Not at all groomed in the French style. I admit that I sort of liked the wildness. Lack of humidity helped a lot.
xo
We had intermitten rain with bursts of sunshine that could make you leave the maison minus your parapluie and be sorry later...
DeleteI'm not sure which is lovelier - the flowers or the plate of deserts!
ReplyDeleteYikes, you are living quite the life.
ReplyDeleteOne does have to 'sing for one's supper' so to speak.
DeleteIt isn't a piece of cake you know...
This is a fabulous idea for your blog. Loving it.
ReplyDeleteOne must makeup for down time whilst resting with a broken leg elevated don't cha know...
DeleteThe post is beautiful, and a lovely record of tea (er, champagne!) enjoyed with you at the Georges V. And the 'doggie-bag' of pastries - amazing little American touch in an old-world setting. . .Thank you, merci beaucoup!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Laurent Gauthier is the young chef we are watching on Qui Sera le Prochain Grand Chef Patissier?
ReplyDeleteLove that show! We both do..and I think of you:)
It's the second season..we only just found out about it and have seen the first 2 epis..
What talent these chefs have.LG was only 23 when he appeared and only 3 yrs experience and he shone!
If it's him:)
I'm glad that your recuperation is being done in such high style!
ReplyDeleteFlowers changed every hour? Does the staff wear Rolexes?
I love the elevators, too, so keep up the photos.
The rooms look incredible.
Have fun!
I should have said the flowers get a spritz hourly not replaced ahem..
DeleteCarol.what a beautiful post! George V is glorious and remains every bit as wonderful now as it did through newlywed's eyes (almost 50 years ago!) A privilege then and a privilege now.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for this treat!
I'm going there on my next trip to Paris!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfectly color coordinated post, Carol! ;-) I don't know how you got on that deal, but well done! I would have loved sampling all those fabulous looking sweets; I would have loved visiting the hotel even more. A bientôt ! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteWow wow and wow! So much decadent beauty and perfection, delectable goodies, and sumptuous luxury. Where do I sign up? I'm hoping to get to Paris next summer. Lovely post!
ReplyDeleteI met Jeff Leathem in May! His flowers at the George V are so amazing and I am such a fan!!!! What he does is heavenly, his work is to die for!!!

Your apartment looks absolutely BEAUTiful!! Someday I hope to stay in such a gorgeous apartment! :) :) Great job with it!
DeleteOh my dear ... This is a most fabulous post. Just beautifully exotic in every way. I do love the china, as I love china of all kinds. The colors in the dining room just scream luxury.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine what a room costs (a regular room) is tea is that much? I don't remember that hotel being in the unaffordable category 30 years ago, always nice and upscale ... But I think the renovation took them up a few levels. I can understand, there is so much global wealth now that they might as well cash in.
How sumptuous and joyous your afternoon sojourns must be! They look too too divine. Sorry to hear that you've had a broken leg though- that's terrible- I guess you must be back up and around now. I hope so.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of the latest Paris Breakfast! DIVINE!!!!
ReplyDeleteSoooooooooooooooo beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis is so heavenly from start to finish. You will never be able to come back to the US and be satisfied. I love your painting. You have embarked on such an amazing journey- I am so inspired.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your Parisian world. K
Completely decadent and worth every moment! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteIf I ate one of the choux by Laurent Gautier, I believe I would think I had died and gone to heaven--its ingredients are right up my alley--not to mention what might have happened had I stayed in the penthouse bedroom. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteFor once, the flowers have lured my eye away from the sweets! Refreshed hourly!!! Quelle extravagance! But definitely worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Carol - on my list for next year!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou talked of doing tours? I'm guessing you're still catching up from the foot injury and won't be giving them in September? Wishful thinking...
ReplyDeleteI love your blog :) Greetings from Istanbul
ReplyDeleteI would so love to be elegant like that but I just can't seem to pull it off! Still, those photos make me swoon!
