On Saturday, Bear 🐻 and I took the train to Melun, a 25 minute train ride from Gare de Lyon.
Melun is home 🏠 to an extra-aged, deliciously creamy Brie cheese.
I haven’t been for a few years,
There is another Brie cheesey fete In Meaux next weekend and we will not miss it.
French Brie is a fermented, lait crue cheese native to Seine-et-Marne and it tastes nothing like what they call ‘Brie’ in the US👍
Of the all-Brie lunch malheureusement… Instead we got a quick bowl of Hot & Sour soup 🥣 (called Shangainese here) for resuscitation.
Such beautiful jam jars with beautiful Frenchy handwriting. Be still my heart ❤️ Somehow I resisted..
How did I resist these authentique Pithiviers? I meant to return for a mini…I hope they will turn up at the next Brie event 🤞🙏
We discovered the Tour d’Argent Epicerie sells real baking potatoes 🥔 I can highly recommend a good smear of Brie du Melun on your hot, baked potato 👍 They are the very same potatoes served in the restaurant (,50 centimes each).
Love the jam jars..In Provence a lady used napkins I think this might be the case also. And she gives the recipe..Just so quaint.
ReplyDeleteYou and Provence ❤️❤️❤️
DeleteOh, yum, a cheese fête! Bear is a lucky fellow getting to tag along…cow or no cow. And, another Brie fête next week? Wow! Your baked potato looks fabulous! 😋
ReplyDeleteIt was fab.
DeleteMost here prefer purée. Or tiny potatoes
Bakers are rarely offered on menus, except at a hot dog place on rue de Rennes 🤷♀️ go figure
How could I forget LES CHIPS / French fries?
DeleteLove your cheese map, Carol! I remember we had an apartment rental next to Barthélemy. You had to pass through a courtyard where you could view the workers through the windows, cutting and wrapping cheeses. The aromas were amazing!
ReplyDeleteLucky you. I loved the giant cow and goat in the window. I believe it has new owners but in the family.
DeleteI like to bake brie and serve it with tart apple slices. Food fetes...what a fun fall activity. Was nice to see Bear.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds delicious GA 🍎
DeleteYum Yum Yum! Wish I were there! I have had aged Brie here in Indiana, not sure if it was from France, but, I ate too much and got a migraine headache, which can happen.
ReplyDeleteA little bit of ages Brie goes a long way.
DeleteI have heard of that…dommage
Moderation does not come easily
No wonder the French are grumpy 😊
I would love going to a brie foodie fete as I love a delicious brie cheese. It was fun seeing bear and that baked potato with melted brie must have tasted like heaven. Yum. As always you take wonderful photos Carol. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures. -Suzanne P.
ReplyDeleteYou’re very welcome Suzanne P.
DeleteThe baked potatoeS 🥔 🥔 I bought 2 and ate 2 🫣
Not my intention but baked potatoes in Paris are rare as hen’s teeth.
I was greedy
Bonjour Carol 🎨 and Bear 🐻
ReplyDeleteMon Dieu! I love the quarter round brie cheese wooden box!!!
I was a cheese buyer for a gourmet shop and restaurant in San Francisco Ca years ago and I always fell hard for was the cheese boxes and labels The French🇫🇷 cheese labels and boxes were always the most creative and in my mind so collectable🎨💗🗼🇫🇷🧀 some of the cheeses came in wooden baskets wrapped in red and white gingham cloth ( which I always kept to make pot holders for my French inspired kitchen)
Merci for your great post always feel like I'm there with you and how I wish to be someday !!!
My cheese🧀 passion is those printed papers they wrap the cheese in ❤️❤️
DeleteI too love the colorful papers and labels the Brie de Melun def
DeleteAnd potatoes with melted cheese🧀🧀🧀 is so yummy I can't say I wouldn't also get two and enjoy them both its my go to comfort food especially now that you can get a good raclette cheese at a good grocery store if not a decent brie 🗼🇫🇷 ( brie de meau) yum 😋
ReplyDeleteBrie de Melun is harder to find than Brie de Meaux - it’s aged longer and has a deeper flavor.
ReplyDeleteI hope to be able to try it someday
Deleteit sounds wonderful looks wonderful especially on the potatoes 😁
Love the sketchbook collage page and the reportage of the event. Sketchbook Wandering.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rita. I do too…I used to draw in agenda…fun!
DeleteSounds wonderful Carol! so sorry I could not make it. But maybe next year there will be a real cow! 😊🐄
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun event, a celebration specifically for your town’s brie! And so close to Paris too. Hope the second brie weekend is just as fun, but with a real cow. Enjoy your baked potatoes when you can! It’s funny the things you realise you miss/are hard to get.
