London's Best Cake Shops

Tea In London, watercolor, 9" x 11"
Come on you poor pups. I'm dragging you off on a tour of London's cake shops.

I'll be in London for 5 whole days next month. Can you think of a better way to fight off a cold at present than research future cake places? I can't.

I love looking at Shop Image Graphics in London for clues. It says I must go to Aubaine - have you been?

And what about Peyton and Byrne? Do advise svp. Your advice is the BEST.

Primrose Bakery in Covent Garden looks awfully tempting too. Ah decisions, decisions

We've been to Hummingbird Cupcakes so we can cross that off the list

Isn't this a delectable macaron cakestand at La Maison du Chocolat on Piccadilly? Though we visited many times in NYC and Paris...hmmm

Carluccio's is not strictly cakes but very appealing and nearby on Fullham road so I will pop in

Look. Faux gateaux at Liberty's

What about an elegant china teapot to display your cookies? The British are very fond of cake.

I like these macaron displays in Fortnum's windows

Shall we all hop in the pink roadster and take off for London's best cake shops?

Or would you prefer lingering over afternoon tea at the divine Sketch Tea Parlour?
Thank you PBers for telling me about THIS place. Have you got others I must not miss? Your suggestions have been noted:Primrose Bakery Melt Yauatcha William Curley Baker and Spice Burnt Sugar Euphorium Bakery Gail's Bread Maison Berteaux Patisserie Valerie Konditor and Cook Loafing The Wolseley Belle Epoque

Cruel 2 B Kind...

freefalling said the other day...
You're a very cruel person, aren't you?
Tantalizing all us poor antipodeans with the enormous variety of hot chocolate available in the northern hemisphere. I've just had to wipe the drool off the keyboard!
I thought I'd lay on the cruelty with a trowel today
Especially since I know you're still in your "jim-jams"...
That's for the Aussies out there :)
Look! These are "healthy" desserts right? All fruity...
And if you don't eat the crust like some crazy people,
these might be considered part of your daily fruit and veg quota..non?
We'll just ignore the glossy l'abricotage coating on them :)
Ok Enough of these fruity desserts you say...
I'll take my grapefruit in a bowl with a spoon, thank you very much! There's something here for everyone...
Chocolate anyone? Et voila!
CHOCOLATE GANACHE TARTE!
This is the patisserie where you can find all these divine creations on rue Lobineau.
Gerard Mulot is every bit as creative as M. Herme or J-P Hevin.
Maybe his gateaux look more traditional but they are right up there with Paris' best!
And now a snack / gouter for the blogger posting this drool-worthy post..
Click on this picture and jump in.
The water's (Tarte au Citron) fine :)

You're invited !

For Darling Charlotte
Charlotte Russe, watercolor, 9" x 11 1/2"
I hung a "FOR SALE" sign on Paris Breakfasts' front lawn this week.
Finally I felt ready to sell my paintings and your response has been lovely.

YUM !Paris Breakfasts began last May so I could share my vision of Paris and show my Parisien watercolors. I wasn't sure anyone would come to my party. All in a row...
I was reminded this week when I was 7 or 8. My imagination was vivid back then too. Round the neighborhood I went selling tickets to a circus show I planned to put on. (5 cents each). I had to go and return those nickels.
No circus - just inside my head.

THANK YOU for coming to my party :) Getting Paris Breakfasts out 5 mornings a week has been like putting on that circus show. And it's been the most fun I've ever had.
Your response has been...well I can't find the words.
I wanted to THANK YOU ALL for coming to my show.
It's meant more than I can say
Help yourself! Please help yourself to a slice of this beautiful cake. It's for you !
Click on me please :)
*Don't forget little

Gérard Mulot

If you arrive in Paris on a Monday you're almost out of luck.
Most chocolatiers and patisseries take off Sunday/Monday.
I was adrift after my long flight and even longer AF bus ride into town
(take the RER train next time !)
To find both J-P Hévin AND Pierre Hermé closed...

But Gérard Mulot is the wonderful exception :)
Wandering aimlessly after my initial disappointment I stumbled on Mulot on 76, rue de Seine: no shuttered gates, open and full of goodies.

To buy something, you pick out your items, get a numbered ticket, go wait on line at the cashier and then return to get your pink box.

Often at 8am after swimming at the pool just down the street, I'd pop in to buy something to paint and something to eat. They have delicious take-away meals also - complete plates and weighed out by the gram.

My pink Mulot box.

If you arrive in Paris on a Wednesday

DO NOT make a B-line to Gerard Mulot's.

Wednesday is Children's Day in France -> a no-school day and Mulot is closed, possibly staying home with les gosses (the kids).
