Galerie Roger-Viollet - Paname

Another old Paris photography exhibit at renown Roger Viollet Galerie.

This time including the work of two contemporary collage artists,
Mr. DJUB, a paper collagist using paper + scissors ✂️
And 13 Bis, who makes her collages digitally.
Both artists were given free access
To Galerie Roger Viollet’s superb archives of
The galerie in its original days
resource
containing 6 million images, covering more than a century and a half of Parisian, French and international history, located
at 6, rue de Seine.
Classic photography to play with.
The famous 1895 train wreck at Gare Montparnasse (by Neurdein), recreated by Bis 13.
Eglise Sacre-Coeur (photo by Gaston Paris), interpreted by Bis 13.
You can purchase (Léon & Lévy)
The charming old original photos (Albert Harlingue)
Plus the newer surreal collage creations (Bis 13).
Here’s a fun video walk in 1900 Paris. You might want to turn the sound down…🎵 I wish they still dressed this way at Longchamp 🏇
When you leave an exhibit like this, your head is still seeing Parisian images as you cross Pont des Art.
The Louvre had a big poster of old/new Paris…
Meanwhile, I was inspired by Maurice-Louis Branger’s old photo of a Paris lamp-lighter (see above), plus adding a few cats 🐈‍⬛ for window decor.
Every month I send out beautifully illustrated letters that capture the true Parisian experience.
Thanks for reading PB ❤️

This was a fascinating post Carol. I have always loved the use of photography and collage. Your lamp-lighter painting is especially lovely and nice that you added the cat. -Suzanne P.

Fabulous post! Made my day! Brought back memories of my student days in Paris (later than 1900!).
