If I Lived in Paris...

 If I lived in Paris I couldn't get a Nathan's Hot Dogs.

I could get a big bucket of moutarde for a song. But what to put it on?
No funky little food carts in Paris for a quickie
You have to go some place like this - Moulin de la Vierge
And buy something like a palmier for quick bite
Big-ass smiles are a big non-non in Paris as if you didn't know...
Only serious-faced multiple drum majorettes beat out Vuitton's tune in Galeries Lafayette vitrine for Christmas
No pink cap erasers to speak of to fit my beloved Papermate yellow pencils (the French must be for Canada). I wish Staples would open in Paris...
Pantone Pink Barbie seen at CDG - probably a universal item..
I wouldn't find any NYC yellow cabs if I lived in Paris...

Do you think La Poste would give me a lift occasionally?
No chorus lineup of poodles in Paris like in Bergdorf's windows...
Just Paris dogs, who look you up and down and check out your shoes, bag and scarf.
Speaking of darling dogs, Biff has made it into the Financial Times' HOW TO SPEND IT (many thanks to author Karen Wheeler). There's a story about Parisbreakfast too btw.
Lizzie and Charlotte are in Paris now and not minding doing without Nathan's Hot Dogs or pink erasers.
Course French Bear wouldn't mind if I lived in Paris.
Hmmmm I wonder...

  3. ... wow, How To Spend It generally comes in the weekend FT ... so hopefully I'll see it this weekend .. attached says Dec 17th, could it be in a weekly edition? There was no HTSI in last weekend's edition. This is exciting, I would have emailed you IMMEDIATELY. Hooray for Paris Breakfasts ....

    1. There is a company that imports those huge pots but they cost a bundle here unlike in France :(

  7. You do get used to living without all the favorite things you eat in your own country. But the added bonus is, you can eat all your favorite things in Paris ALL the time. Then when you go back to your homeland it's a treat to eat hot dogs.

I've cut way back on the hot dogs because of Paris I'm sure.

Of course I love Paris too.
Thanks for your lovely blog, I look forward to reading it everyday.
I am always in wonder about how you think of
your subjects and all those photos you have to go through to make the blog.

no time to sit in a café or relax but maybe that's true of me anywhere I am

      Happy Hols Elaine!

    2. PS
my post subjects sometimes come to me the minute I wake up or when I'm weeding thru photos
I try to think of it as a little movie - a 15 second or less commercial that tells a visual story on one subject
      and makes me smile :)

  10. This is why I have to have Parisbreakfasts with my morning tea: I never know were you're going to take me and I like to start the day with a grand adventure. Today you got me thinking about having a hot dog on a baguette...best of both worlds?

And BIFF!!! Icing on the cake/Dijon on the dog!

And even if you're a cat, you're a lucky dog to have a Parisbreakfasts portrait!

  11. Congrats on the FT shout out! I should have you paint our Springer, Duke, in front of the Eiffel Tower since that is probably the closest he will ever get to France.
Now, pack your bags and get to Paris, vite, vite!!

  12. Yay for being in the Times! I hope it brings you lots of Parisian pet portrait business!

Harry still loves his. He gazes upon himself in that portrait with all sorts of vanity and he doesn't even care.

  13. I Know!! The more places one lives, the more difficult it is to find a place to live! My dilemma. Lovely little article about you. I'm so happy to see you get the attention you so deserve!

  14. Great post! (If it would help, I promise to mail you eraser caps any time you need them! And I'm in Canada, so you can be sure of getting the French/English labelling.)

  15. What a great post! It made me smile.

Well, if I can add anything... I think if you lived in Paris, you would be more inspired, more creative, more adventurous, and ... happier. In a different way than you are happy in New York.

I say take the jump! :)

    Much love

  16. How sweet of Karen to share her pleasure about Biff's portrait by yours truly!

Enjoyed your New York - Paris story. I spied "Radio City Music Hall" - Bear sure would miss it in Paris! ;-)

  17. Congratulations on your Financial Times appearance. Well deserved. I think that a lack of hot dogs can't possibly be a reason for not living in Paris- can it? I love that Barbie display!

  18. We are doing it, Carol! After 20 years of coming for a month or so, we rented an apartment for a year, and have been living as Parisians since September. It is a different experience. We cook at home more, we feel free to stay in if it is raining, like now! Just do it.

  19. That hotdog looks great :) And the big-ass smiles!
The watercolors are great, too, and Bear is all packed - hmmmmm

  20. Carol, I know I only live across the sea from France, but I would go and live in Paris for a while just to see WHAT exactly I would miss from home ... family not included...

Come to think of it , maybe, it would be good teabags, as I do love a cup of tea in the day..

  21. Carol, what fun to read your tale of two cities. How good it is to know them both, eh?

Many congrats on the FT appearance. Take a bow!

  22. If you lived in Paris, you would have to take iPad classes in French! Could that be twice as confusing?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ah Carol! you have no need to fear ... I found a funky little food van in Paris in a park not far from Avenue Montaigne. They sold demi-baguettes avec jambon et fromage and little bottles of pampelmouse rosé .... very quick ... very cheap and very délicieux.

  24. Dear Carol.... You are always in Paris!..... You move back and forth as the spirit moves you!!!.... and you freely commute between the 2 worlds! So Congrats on your FT debut! There's always cloning if you can't make up your mind!

  25. Carol, that's so refreshing reading your blog....and at least not always the pictures and the usual stress talk of Christmas. I enjoy it

  26. Funny and clever post - the best of both worlds! In a life of moving around I find the trick is always to focus on the best things about the place you're in, and try to shift the negatives out of mind or at least come to a peaceful acceptance of them. Yellow cabs and Nathan's hot dogs will be great treats when you visit NY!
