Absolutely Fabulous Venice

When the #1 vaporetto lets you off at the San Marco stop. You are forced to walk down alleyways lined with deluxe shops. "Name, names, names Sweetie-Darling"
Missoni, Pucci, Cavalli.
Bottega Veneto.
You instantly feel the pinch in your purse.
These diamond-encrusted shoes do not have your name on them.
Not mine anyway.
Italianos or touristas?
What's your guess?
This is why I suggest don't bother with the 3 euro cioccolata.
And ante up 9 euros at Caffe Florian.
At least here you can feel like a principessa.
Fortunately gelato is universally democratic for principessas and the rest of us.

  2. I love those patterned dresses! I suppose it will be several summers before the trend reaches the middle of nowhere - er, Minnesota - where I live!

  3. I love Missoni dresses!
You do show case each city really well when focussing on an aspect or two throughout your post. There are so many layers to Venice it is sometimes hard to articulate. I had to write a 7 page poem just to let it all out.

    Another great post!
Hope you had a great Easter weekend

I think the couple is Italian..
Well certainly the woman is - grey, big gorge bag, the shoes, the hair - very elegante
The guy - I'm not so sure...

  8. Great photos, Carol - I love the reflections in the opening shot.
Venice was the most expensive city in Italy when I visited many years ago - I guess it still is :)
I wonder how many of those diamond sandals sell?

    Luxury in Venice...
Is there anything else on offer?
It is a pricy town indeed.
Except for the gelato thank Gawd!

  12. Carol, once again you are summoning up my travel memories.

Isn't there a lovely old Post Office across the piazza from St Marks? I remember finding some fabulous, anachronistic place to sit and write out post card messages, and then getting beautiful stamps to send those cards across the ocean.
