Easter at Laduree, Paris

NYC Louise asked me, “Do the French have an Easter Parade?” No way.

Solli and others asked me, “what was I doing for Easter?”

Champagne for breakfast / Hotel Carlton Cannes

Yes another Selfie. In Cannes your inner starlet comes out. I hope you're sitting down. Bucket list time.
Yesterday, 3 juillet I gave myself a late birthday presie. Not so petit-dejeuner at HOTEL CARLTON CANNES. I went for the fab breakfast buffet everyone raves about.
Oui, la prix is a steep (45€) But nothing compares to Paris.
And way better IMHO. Here — juice of the day.
Carrot/mango/something or other. Who can remember these things. I forget how many stations there are. Too many to count.
My kind guide gives me the grand buffet tour.
The citron station, everything from wonderful MENTON.
A gazillion kinds of smoked salmon.
Endless jams, always of great interest to me though I had none. Not shown the fromage station - superb chevre from Mere Richard of Lyon. La creme de la creme in France. I ate that.
Jambon station not shown. Nor the Qatar station. Olive produits station? Oui.
I didn’t touch a croissant 🥐 Patisseries are not so common in Cannes, unlike Paris where they're on every street corner. Les Cannoise watch their ligne. Indulgence means a new pair of shoes not tarte citron.
I didn't eat so much though I got the included glass of Champagne 🍾 (I don't usually drink but sometimes you go with the flow) to accompany my very thick chocolat chaud ☕️ There are discrete signs suggesting you not take-away all the tempting food from the restaurant. I did as I was told (even though a plastic freezer bag lurking inside my purse). Thanks for reading Parisbreakfasts. Feel free to share.
If you'd like a 🍾champagne watercolor or letters from Paris let me know
🥂🍾☕️
Much Love❤️ from Carolg 😎 in Cannes🌴

ParisBreakfasts at Les Editeurs

This is Paris at 7:15 am when I left for the pool. Seeing this is enough to get me out of the house even if it's pitch black out.

My 5th straight day hitting the water at Art Deco Piscine Pontoise (built 1934).

Still the time slots can be rough if you're not an early bird.
7 - 8:30 am
12:15 - 1:30
4:30 - 8 pm
Post-pool I was remembering my tourist days when I used to hit the cafes for a lovely petit dejeuner...
Now I rarely go but it seems a better choice than hitting the boulangerie. And I've always wanted to stop in Les Editeurs. An early dip gave me courage.
And a coffee and croissant didn't look so steep.

I could pretend to draw or something.

Inside is glorious, tres chic.

I know zip about coffee even though I once visited Cafes Richard's coffee plant near La Defense and I've painted a mountain of coffee cups.

Ordering a cafe creme is not the done thing evidently but an espresso would have me spinning.

So I had to get the 'Petit' Petit Dejeuner. Sometimes you really miss being a carefree tourist in Paris, back when  you didn't have to think about electric bills etc.
*By the way I forgot to mention I FELL MADLY IN LOVE IN VERSAILLES!

With this 17th century-style type face. It was on the awning of the worst possible tourist snack bar but so what. It's pretty fabulous no?

Even if I don't know how to order coffee in a Paris cafe.

I know how to get out my pen and start scribbling like a possessed calligraphie maniac.

The waiter was very forgiving when he saw my attempts at French script.

The typeface on the windows at Les Editors is tres elegant.

And even better when you flop it to get the full effect.

Outside I kept seeing French script. Just look at that S! It's classy.

At Monop I swooned over these cans of Cassoulet. That's what happens when you fall hard for a typeface in Versailles. And it helps you cope with Paris' irresistible pastries. There are worst things that can happen no?

Paris Dreaming

Merci Yvonne for sending me a picture of Le Bunny dreaming of having a petit dejeuner in Paris.

I'm dreaming I'll get all my stuff inside my ancient suitcase and off in about an hour...

 Bear is dreaming of ...

Petit dejeuner tomorrow at cafe Le Select...
Like aren't we all!
Ciao NYC

Paris is..?

I took a long walk this morning and asked myself,
What is Paris to me? Joggers!
 Boots!
Les touristes everywhere. Some are French.
Scooters. Kids on scooters and grownups.
The long corridors of Haussmannian buildings.
The curvy corners - 3 at one fell swoop.
 Les balcons!
And pots of muguet from Un Jour de Fleurs to put on your balcon.
 FROMAGE!
Lapin. There are bunnies everywhere for every occasion in Paris
Paques/Easter is long gone but the chocolate rabbits remain
 Les ardoises
 La formules
Petit dej'  For researche and to paint
Patisseries - I'm doing 'Polonaise' researche
If I get a place in Paris it will be full of polka dots/pois.
French Girl said she will decorate. I'm not so sure she would approve of polka dots.
Coccinelle bring happiness and polka dots - double joy
 Stripes and scarves ARE Paris
 Who doesn't covet Repetto ballerinas?
 Cadeaux!
 If the vendeuse asks you,
'is it a cadeaux/gift?'
toujour dit, 'OUI!'
Paris l'arbre have their heads chopped off -
from the revolution?
 I asked French Girl,
'How come so many manifestations(mani), greve, strikes?'
She said, 'It's our tradition from the Revolution!'
Oh
Tous les mamans and les gosses/kids
 L'aire frais.
I thought Fr Girl was crazy to open the windows every morning.
Now I know she's not so crazy. Fresh Paris air is nice in the mornings.
Doing l'escaliers/stairs is essential anywhere but especially in Paris where you eat croissant for petit dej' and dessert dessert dessert.
What is Paris to you?
