This weekend I was going away to paint greens 🥬
I’m painting GREENS + red hearts ❤️ at home 🏡
With artist JIM DINE heart ♥️ paintings.
Gianni Versace was born in Reggio di Calabria in 1946,
Son of a seamstress 🧵 and an appliance shop owner. At age 9 he designed his first dress for his mother’s shop.
Versace spent his youth apprenticing in his mother’s shop, hands-on cutting ✂️ draping, constructing.
At 26 in 1972 he left Calabria to make his way in the design center of Milano with no formal training,
But years of practical experience and great determination & ambition. He free-lanced for JENNY and COMPLICE.
In 1976, his brother Santos joined Gianni to start his own line. A year later his sister, Donatello joined them.
The Baroque featured strongly
You may think, ‘I wouldn’t be caught dead in these clothes’. Never mind. This is a chance to experience a genius talent who expressed the time he lived in.
Versace exhibit is on till 5 September.

♥️ Love your hearts❤️❤️❤️ Thanks for sharing your knowledge of Versace.

ReplyDeleteYou’re welcome Melinda ❤️
DeleteInteresting info on Versace. TY . I love green food - vegetables, pistachio, lime etc
ReplyDeleteI 💚 Love green food too Suki, especially salad and pistachios. And mint and Matcha madeleines. Artichokes!
DeleteWhat fun! If only I had the $$$, figure and confidence to wear his clothes! Thank you for showing his inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHis intention was to give women confidence
DeleteAnd to make them feel powerful 💪
This was a fascinating newsletter. I love when you give us background history of influential artists and Gianni Versace fashions and jewelry did reflect the times. I love your heart paintings and that green matcha. Thank you Carol for your continuing to educate us on different artists. I enjoy it immensely. -Suzanne P.
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzanne ❤️
DeleteIt’s a learning experience for me too.
I wish I had done more research 🧐 BEFORE my visit.
Versace was a fascinating artist reflective of his time. Not many like him currently in my opinion.
I get a trip to Paris and it's marvelous offerings whenever I open up your newsletter, Carol! Keep cool, I read you are having a third wave of heat right now.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary in Oregon!
DeleteYes, but not as bad as the previous 2 weeks and perhaps we are dealing better with it this time around.
In 5 days, I went to 4 museums with AC 👏
And I am going to the pool 🏊🏽♀️ regularly. Very refreshing just to loll about with the occasional kick.
I have a good supply of water and ice 🧊 on hand.
When it gets too uncomfortable, I go and sit in the cool foyer. Our building has thick stone walls…downstairs.
Versace was such an attractive man and brilliant designer who tragically died way too young. His origin story is so interesting, thank you for bringing it to us. 💚
ReplyDeleteYes, I was clueless that he came from what seems an unsophisticated background although he did learn Latin & Greek in grade school!
DeleteObviously a great talent and a great loss.
Just wondering about "the first to make clothing with leather" . . . I feel like that happened before 1974.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. Probably first in high fashion couture.
DeleteYou sent me down a rabbit hole! I know more about Versace than I ever thought possible! Love your hearts!!! 🥰 from🇨🇦
