Ah, Galeries Lafayette...I nearly got arrested purchasing fabric years ago there, because I had trouble converting to metrics, and I knew that the distance from the middle of the chest to an outstretched arm was a yard, so I was trying to communicate what I needed that way...long story! But anyway, beautiful images, Carol, and very evocative...

  2. I wonder if those boxes could be ordered over the internet .....
Your near-arrest experience made me reflect of how sweet people here react when I try to take pictures. I even encountered a sicurity watchman who averted his gaze when I aimed my lens at one of those expensive ... (better not tell, don't want him to get into trouble). All he said was whispering, well, take your picture, but know that you shouldn't! :-) The only store I ever encountered a very negative reaction (so negative, I almost returned my purchase), is owned by a French lady here. Do they have some collective negative memory of photographers?
Next time tell the Ladurée people that there are girls out there like me who never would have known about them without your pictures. And guess, where I will turn first to, once I manage to sneak into Paris (camera in hand *grin*)????

BEAUTIFUL... all of it. Especially the paintings of the Ladree boxes. They're like little jewel boxes. The photo you almost got arrested for was well worth it. Your readers thank you. ;-)

  6. I love Laduree boxes!!! You make them look like ancient jewelry boxes - so pretty! I only had one bad experience in Paris where a rude employee virtually shouted at me not to take pictures...we left in a hurry!

  8. Carol- All I can say is that I am now craving these macarons (you've given me so many things to look for on my next visit to Paris) and that I love your obsession with color!
    Thanks!

  9. I can hardly believe you'd get a hard time for taking a picture. Like the others I would be totally in the dark were it not for your pictures. Oh my, and to think you actually found a box in the trash....that is just, well, simply sinful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Did you know you can be arrested for not paying your bill in a French restaurant?
The no-photography restrictions are almost as stringent or you're lead to believe they might be.
    I kid you not.
Be descrete with your camera in France and perhaps ask permission first.

  11. Laduree boxes - YUM. I adore them and you found one in a bin. Why do I never see one in a bin when I am in Paris?
I have a collection of Hermes boxes but they are all the same colour.

    Beautiful paintings!

I had tea at the Ladurée on Champs Elysées last June - divine! And so aesthetically pleasing too.

Had you been arrested, I would have brought macarons for you in jail... instead of oranges (in French we say: I will bring you oranges).
